Islams face fricked up. First time I saw anybody do that to him.

Volk beat him up quite a bit but not nearly like this. Islam is mortal, but don't know anyone at 155 really beating him for a bit.

Dustin’s take down defense was great. He fought a great fight to give himself a chance. Just didn’t happen tonight

Yep. No shame in his performance. He took one of the best pound-for-pound fighters to the limit. I think the 1st round just drained his power too much. He had his opportunities with Islam standing for a good part of the fight. Sometimes you can have a great performance and still lose to an elite guy. That's why the turnover is so great these days, for the most part, in MMA.

Definitely respect Dustin’s decision:

If I can’t win the belt I’m not just going to get the shite kicked out of me for no reason. I’m going to go be a dad to my daughter.

What an ending.

If he’s gonna retire I wish he would have announced it for sure so he could have gotten the ovation he deserves

I get why he didn’t commit though

What a fight. Dustin is a warrior. I thought he was done as soon as Islam got his back round 1. That’s got to be the most hurt Islam has ever been. He had his shots and pushed him to his limit. Props to Islam too for holding his own going toe to toe with an elite striker. I’ll always root against the Dagastani’s but they’re good people. Hope to see the diamond again

That's the cool thing about MMA. Evolve or die. I think tonight was interesting and will go along way toward prepping for these Central Asian guys. Train your takedown defense and occupy the center of the ring at all costs with aggressive standup.

Islam seems like a nice lad I think many of you are too harsh on him

he honestly does seem that way

will give em this.... at least they all make an effort to learn English when they come over here to fight in the UFC.... which is something you can't say about 99% of the other fighters outside of the U.S.

This was basically every fighters game plan against Khabib for year after the Al Iaquinta fight and it never materialized to a win against him or Islam.

In theory it's a great plan, and if this were the old days of Pride, the Dagestanis would not have nearly the advantage they do in the octagon/cage, but it's going to take an elite level grappler to try to neutralize what Islam does best, and Arman is the only guy at 155 who does that.

155 just has so many bangers, and they all fall right into the hands of the Dagestani style.

Leon can present problems though, because he is a top takedown stuffer and a bigger guy than Islam, which is a very rare case at 155.

I’m with you. I can’t root for them, but I definitely respect their work ethic and I appreciate the way they show respect to the good guys of MMA (Cormier, Porrier, Volk, DoBronx, etc). Another thing is they take being disliked in stride. They know that damn near every arena outside of Abu Dhabi will be hostile, but always remain humble and still do their thing. That can’t be easy.

Khabib said he loves coming to America because it is the only country in the world where he can go and no one hassles him in public.

He goes to same Starbucks and just sits and drinks coffee and watches people and no one wants photos, autographs, money, favors, etc.

Any ufc fighter who gets battered and wins a fight gets labeled as a “warrior”. But when it’s Islam, we get the “he looks like shite”, never mind that he finished Dustin in the 5th and could’ve lay and pray to a victory.
