They would need for both LSU and Auburn to beat Georgia and Florida. It's not happening. They have to beat one of them, at least.

Not necessarily. Vandy could go 6-2. Say LSU beats both Florida and Georgia. the loser of the UF Georgia game has 3 conference losses and is out. They just need the winner to drop one more confernce game to anyone.

LSu could beat Georgia lose to Florida, and Florida could lose to Auburn, and be the same type of thing.

There are a number of ways Vandy could lose to both and still win the East.

I really want this to happen, but I don't think it's happening this year.

How fans of perennial powerhouses shrug off teams on the rise:

"Well, [team 1] can't be legitimate even though they beat [team 2] and [team 3] because they are still [team 1]."

I.E. Kansas and Missouri last year. Let's admit that Vandy is having a great season thus far, and playing some great football. You can't assume that all of a sudden they are going to "revert back to being Vandy." An undefeated team IS Vanderbilt this season, and when they lose 2 or 3 of those games, it's not fair to say, "Well, looks like they're becoming Vandy again." Let teams have a great year and stop pretending like recruiting is the only key to success in college football.
No, really. This is still Vanderbilt in the SEC. It is lightning in a bottle.

If Vandy has sustained success this year it will reinforce that the great SEC defensive stats are in large part due to the average or below-average offenses in the conference. Laugh at the star ratings all you want, but you need quality depth and talent to compete in a physical league.

Kansas and Missouri get talent and are not a great analogy. Northwestern and Baylor are better comparisons.
