The 12 team playoff was built for programs like Penn State.
They play 2 hard games a year. They lose both, beat the cupcakes, finish 10-2, will make the playoffs every year.
Nobody benefited more from the ridiculously broken seeding than Penn State. A big reason why it was immediately fixed.

I think all 4 of those teams beat SMU and Boise State last year. If they hadn’t had the broken seeding that was created when there were five power conferences instead of just the two we have now, Penn State would have had a bye then lost to 5 seed Notre Dame.
SMU and Boise are not big games regardless of playoff format.

They won the Women's Volleyball Championship last year, without any men pretending to be women.
