That's why we have stats and box scores my boy TO ANALYZE and yes I'm completely aware of the NFL's enforcement of copyright laws as pertains to their property, the only arguments y'all have against my POV is that I didn't watch the games however the stats sites have rendered it possible for me to compensate for that with box scores and annual stats and NFL-sanctioned highlights so I can appraise players and teams but not be ignorant and YouTube-featured games/highlights that circumvent that copyright restriction as well. So y'all need to have a beer and just chill bc I'll always be here and y'all probably like me because it actually generates fruitful, intelligent discussion about football that the highlights don't always account for. I didn't lie about Barry's propensity for inconsistency did I?

Yeah but Barry didn't play those extra years and Emmitt was among the most consistent backs around, 100 yds/1 TD per game most of his career, winnable fantasy numbers on a 6-7 year fantasy basis.

The best argument for Barry Sanders being the best RB of all-time or at least in the conversation is that he made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team every single season he was in the NFL.

the fewest yards he ever carried for in a season was 1,115 in 1993. He also only played in 11 games that year.

but for the most part he wasn't injury prone (stayed healthy) and that's pretty crazy considering how he would stop and start on a dime playing on astroturf most of the time.

you'd figure moving around like a pinball in a machine would cost him more. Cutting like he did on an artificial surface like with ease showed a lot strength and balance. He was strong as frick I'd say but since he didn't seek out contact people write him off sometimes. I mean its cool and whatever but he was probably the most exciting runner I've seen.

One could make the same argument about Terrell Owens, who's been excluded from the Hall of Fame his first two years of eligibility for some reason: he passes the eye test, his production was very consistent over a long stretch, he balled out in the Super Bowl on a broken ankle. This guy averaged 1,000 yds/10 TDs per year his entire career. He's 2nd all-time in receiving and he balled out consistently and he isn't in the HOF, weird stuff.

Ehh not really. TO is an incredible talent but if you look at the HoF voting trends, they are particularly harsh to the 90s and up WRs. Also just my opinion I feel the voters are purposely leaving TO off even though, statistically speaking he's the 3rd best WR All-time, as a way to 'stick' it to him.

I agree but at the end of the day and in 2017, TO is top 5 all-time in receiving yards and receiving TDs and top 10 in receptions, he was first-team all-pro 5x with 3 different QBs only 2 other players EVER share that distinction: Deion and Ted Hendricks. And if the voters want to stick it to 90s receivers, they should've stuck it to Jerry Rice because he was a beneficiary of that 90s trend as well, a big beneficiary. There's no debate the media doesn't like TO for their particular narrative but there's always another side of the story and a lot of their argument isn't between the lines based. Brett Favre texted dick picks to the Jets sideline lady, had a pill habit, and threatened retirement to the Packers for 5 years and he's inducted on first ballot(deservedly so bc of his accomplishments on the football field) but TO isn't? To me that's logically inconsistent and discrediting to the HOF voters.

Agreed. I'm no Lions fan. Don't care about the Lions at all. I was young when he played, but I watched the NFL constantly back then. He's the best I ever saw. His last season he was still on top of his game. He walked away on top. He could have played several more years.

Well from a quality standpoint, the current running backs in the league are better than Barry Sanders primarily due to the evolution of conditioning programs, medical science, mass football camps, IMG, technology, etc. That pertains to all sports as their game and systems evolve and progress. That being said, Barry and Emmitt were the 2 greatest running backs of their generation and to me that isn't debatable, I give the slight edge to Emmitt because of his consistency and incredible ability to score TDs at a massive rate. The greatest running back and player that ever existed on the planet Earth is Jim Brown and no counter-argument can withstand that.

Does this person plan to reveal the 20 he claims are better than Barry Sanders?

* So says...Bleacher Report

(and the greatest athlete of all-time was a guy born in 1887.)

There's no GOAT but how much better you are then your peers.

But that's easier for Brown; he will always look far better against his peers compared to today's backs where the league is over 70% black.

Most teams still had only one black player when Brown broke into the NFL. Hell the Redskins were finally forced to sign a black player in 1962...3 years before Brown retired.

It was the AFL that brought over all the black players with the merger in 1970...and that was years after Brown retired.
