Even Uprising? It gives me the chills, especially the first 30 seconds. Truly otherwordly and extraordinarily well-conceived of and executed. The first time I heard it was them playing it live on SNL and it made my hair stand on end.

I just listened to Perfect Union. I appreciate you recognizing they are maybe a little bit harder, but essentially, that's no different to me than the other bands we enumerated.

Are there any new pure rock bands that actually rock and don't have singing like this guy in Titus Andronicus?

Titus Andronicus is a lot more punk than rock...

I like stuff like Incubus, Chevelle, Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold, Depswa, etc.

Recommendations for you:

Try Dax Riggs. He's coming out with a new album in August. Should be good.
LINK

Dinosaur Jr's album Farm (2009) is awesome, as is the rest of their catalog. They rock pretty hard. LINK

John Frusciante's solo work is really well done. I'd recommend Will to Death or Inside of Emptiness as starter albums. LINK

Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks - Real Emotional Trash. LINK

Rodrigo y Grabriela LINK

FYI Grooveshark is your friend

The Hold Steady and the Drive-by Truckers. They are the counterpoint to droney boring indie rock (and very conciously so). I don't think this is the Hold Steady's best album, but go check out boys and Girls In America, which just rocks. DBT, go check out the Dirty South which is their most consistent rocker (and even the slow stuff is awesome).

Both bands, by all rights, should be huge.

Given the list of bands you like -- try Motion City Soundtrack, Alkaline Trio, Against Me!, the Dilinger Escape Plan, and Ted Leo. all are sort of punky to some degree, but so were the bands you listed. Also, Los Campesinos! are very rockin'.

And once you get past the rough vocals.... Titus Andronicus is so awesome they make my head hurt. I LOVE that album, especially The Theme From Cheers.

SUB --

While I like a lot of those bands, given JT's list of bands.... I'm not sure he'll like ANY of that (except Frusciante). I'll bet money he would HATE Stephen Malkmus. Which hurts me, but JT doesn't strike me as a lo-fi sort of guy.

But let me second McLusky. I think JT would dig a band that has lyrics like "Our old singer is a sex criminal" over pounding bass guitar.

Meh, I think he may like Dax.

And Rodrigo y Gabriela have a huge Metallica influence and even cover one of their songs.

it is tough to top the opening lyric of "all of your friends are count; your mother is a ball point pen thief.'

Check em out. Anyone who likes music can appreciate their talent. It's all acoustic classical guitars.

What Mclusky album should I start with?

Mclusky Do Dallas is their most popular and what I would recommend.

I am almost 100% indifferent to lyrics - to the point that for even my very favorite bands, I probably know less than half of the lyrics.

Are those the guys that did Orion? If so, they are cool.

Has anyone mentioned the Dirty Projectors & Bjork album? Obviously it's vocal heavy, but I think it's beautiful.
