And The Walkmen's album is good, but it sounds like their other stuff.

Been thinking about bumping this again since it's been roughly a month. Haven't had time to really check out any new stuff yet though.

P.S. No Age's new album has leaked

Same here. I STILL listen to Dr. Dog's album a lot. fricking ridiculous how good that album is. I'm not sure why I like it so much but it hits all the right emotions for me and never fails to put me in a good mood.

Thats one I havent even tried yet. I guess I need to give it a shot.
Mumford & Sons is the one I cant stop playing. My god that album is brilliant. That, High Violet and Brothers. I hated Brothers at first, thought it was easily their worst album. Now its like crack, I have to listen to it on the regular.

missed out on this band and am now playing catch up. I saw them open for the black keys in 2006 and they were awful live. I mean really bad. So i've been dismissing their music ever since. Guess I need to focus on their studio material. Just don't go see them live. maybe they were having a very off night?

Haven't gotten the new Walkmen, heard good things, though.

I love the new Thermals album, but it's really just a Thermals album. Not as good as The Body, The Blood, and the Machine and it doesn't have a single as catchy as Now We Can See, which is the greatest earworm in years. But if you like the Thermals, which I do, get it.

Arcade Fire's new album is good, but the online video for We Used to Wait is outstanding. Cool use of technology.

Know who put out a great album? John Mellencamp. Seriously. He recorded the whole album old school, one mike in the middle of a room, and it is outstanding. Of course, I still think Mellencamp is better than Springsteen, so I'm one of his staunchest defenders.

Finally got around to getting Gaslight anthem and Wolf Parade... not disappointed at all.

Literally just bought Deer Tick and Blitzen Trapper's new albums. Can't report back just yet as I've only listened to them once (at work) and I honestly wasn't paying attention.

I don't think the new Arcade Fire is boring, but it's very Arcade Fire-y. I've only listened twice, so I can't judge if it's good or average yet.

thanks for this thread. I've been wanting to try and get into some new music and I loaded up pandora with several bands listed in the thread. We will see what sticks.

The only "new" bands I have been into lately are MMJ and Arcade fire. I am typically lisening to bands like phish, grateful dead, government mule, bela fleck, medeski martin and wood.

Will post back when I find stuff that excites me.

Thanks so much for moving the thread back here. It gets lost so quick on the OT.

Shame Shame is one of my favorite albums of the year. I still listen to it a lot as well.
Really like Minus the Bear's OMNI as well.
High Violet, Brothers, and This is Happening also are great 2010 cd's.
Don't remember when One Life Stand by hot Chip came out, but still listen to it a lot as well.
Like Arcade Fire's new one as well.

If you haven't listened to Florence + The Machine's new album, you should. One of the best of the year. She performed at the VMAs and blew it away. Every song is well-done. What are opinions on Eminem's album? The best of the year so far are still One Life Stand-Hot Chip, LCD's, and Surfer Blood; but there are so many I haven't listened to.

That is a great album. They just rock. Their coming The Palladium Ballroom in dallas in October. Seems like they would be a fun live band.

But the band I keep recommending to my fiends that nobody will give a shot is The Features. Saw them open for Manchestar Orchestra and dear god they killed. They are one of the few bands that i've ever seen that are far superior live than on their album. But the album is still worth a listen.
LINK The Features - Lion

The Features - Temporary Blues (LIVE)

Also Chromeo is a First Listen on NPR right now

edit: second link is working now

Yup. I think Mellencamp is everything that most Sprignsteen drones say the Boss is. And he's got far better pop sensibilities (he can write a radio friendly single. both claim to sing for the "regular guy", but only Mellencamp's fanbase really includes "regular guys", as Springsteen appeals to, oddly enough, a lot of writers (not rock critics per se). Springsteen can talk a good game, but it was Mellencamp who put together Farm Aid and actually did things for the working class guy getting screwed by the economy (not to mention wrote a much better song about Reaganomics - Rain On the Scarecrow is twenty times the song Born In the USA is).

I think since Bruce writes about Jersey, he has a legion of built in supporters, while Cougar is writing about Indiana, hardly a media mecca. And for all of the talk of Springsteen's live shows, I think they just seem good in contrast to 70s dinosaur rock bands. Yeah, I said it.

Oh, and Jack and Diane is a near perfect song.
