I don't know why anyone would be excited that 95% of the show was spent beating a dead horse about 13% of the population.

I know, right? That fricking 13% is a pain in the arse and wasting valuable show time. Dammit.

The whole issue is that the statement made on the stage assumes that the Catholic Church hasn't done shite since getting busted turning the other way to the abuse.

Yes it's unfair to (mis)characterize the whole Church because of the actions of a minority. But that doesnt excuse certain posters here for acting like it was improper to call out a true scandal as it related to the movie's subject matter.

My girlfriend said the same, she said does he have a dip in his mouth?

Maybe it was to calm his nerves?

Leo's done so many accents that he probably doesn't even know what he sounds like anymore.

I believe the point is that there are some of these guys who skated by and are still in parishes.

If they are it's because no one has come forward and called them out.

Or, as in the case of a priest I grew up with...everything was made up.

The issue isn't that the church has done nothing, it's that they only started doing something because they got busted.

My favorites of the nominees this year:
1. Room
2. Bridge of Spies
3. Mad Max
3. Martian
3. Revenant
6. Spotlight
Haven't seen the rest.

Of the actors that won, I saw all but Vikander and they were well deserved.

If you're saying that there are some offenders without any accusers that came forward, you're probably right.

But anyone accused underwent investigation and found guilty has been removed from parish involvement.

Quite impressed that the academy nailed each one of the main categories tonight.

All of the winners deserved to win, which has not been common the last few years.

Bravo.

Yea. That was the point of the whole movie pretty much

In 2001. Everything has been settled and everyone in any diocese I've been affiliated with has been put in jail or removed if the statute of limitations had occurred.

In order for any person, parent, priest, coach, to be with children on the premises of a Catcholic Church, School, event, etc they're required to go through a ton of background checks.

The implication in the speech was that the Church is still a safe haven for child pedos and abuse. Which is just false.

Supporting actor could have went to at least 2 other guys. That was definitely the closest one
