It'll rack up while Star Is Born wins Best Score or Editing.
Not editing. this move was edited poorly imo. It was too long, a lot that wasn't cut could have been and they still had to "yadda yadda yadda" a lot of stuff.

Does being the 3rd time a movie has been made play any part in winning an Oscar?
I don't think so. Hollywood heavy hitters really like this movie, so it will rack up nominations. Whether it wins any "important" ones remains to be seen.
My predictions on nominations:
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor (Cooper)
Best Actress (Lady Gaga)
Best Supporting Actor (Elliot) (Maybe Dice?
Best Soundtrack
Best Original Song (Shallow)
Best Original Song (I'll Never Love Again)*
Best Cinematography
I don't know how the technical categories work, so I won't go into those.
*I think "Always Remember Us This Way" and "Look What I Found" are also nomination worthy, but I don't think more than two songs will be nominated.

It took damn near two weeks for this movie and it's songs to get out of my head....never ever had that happen before.
I think the striking cinematography has a lot to do with that. The film just felt more authntic than most.
I'm sure they were using vintage lenses on the camera to give it that feeling too
It felt like a documentary about an actual band it seemed so real

That one single, teary-eyed moment alone should win him the Oscar.
That coupled with the "12 notes" speech should definitely win him an Oscar
When I watched it a 2nd time, this convo really tore me up... mainly because my mother committed suicide and I've had that same exact convo so many times

This was a good movie, would have been great with a little better editing and MORE DOG!
Gaga was STUNNING, STUNNING, STUNNING. That first time she got up there on the big stage to sing with Bradley Cooper... well, my wife squeezed my forearm so hard I thought my fingers would fall off. That's how gripping that scene was. Electrifying. Exhilarating.

Just watched.
My main issue is that the Ally never has any redemption from HER addiction. Jackson may have been addicted to drugs/alcohol but he stayed true to his story and self.
Ally let fame completely change her. And the movie didnt really ever cast judgement on her. Sure, Jackson did, but that was more just the movie creating tension between the two. Those are legitimate criticisms of her.
The songs she sang to get famous were more of an embarrassment than Jackson pissing himself.
And the movie never shows that she gets that.

The movie has to end at some point. It couldn’t just keep going until she realized she sold out for the fame. And the last song she sang probably garnered a lot of praise afterwards and that could very well be the thing that opens her eyes
Also I’d guess most “stars” who sing shitty pop songs realize what they’re doing, they just know that’s unfortunately what you gotta do at some point to blow up

There were about 4 scenes that wasted the opportunity to show that she had any self awareness.

Gaga has been a lock for a win since initial reviews. She only had to be mediocre to get a nomination, and by all accounts she is, at a minimum, very good in it. 100% stone cold lead pipe lock.
Cooper will get Actor or Director, but not both.

Saw it last night with my wife
Enjoyed it, very well done
I felt like BC was doing an old “drunk Keith Urban” impersonation onstage
Highs
Gaga singing is a great actress, but those two together sexually didn’t seem very believable until she did the “oh you wanna play, let’s play” line
Dice was great
Really enjoyed the subtle references to their own real life stories, Dice, Chappelle, Gaga
The manager guy was perfect
Great views behind the music industry machinery
BC plays a very convincing drunk
Lows
didn’t care for the cheesy Chappelle family bit
The songs BC sang were weak compared to Gaga’s stuff.
The SNL song was horrific (I know it was supposed to be)
Too long, too jumpy, very self indulgent
Enjoyed it, very well done

That's all fine & dandy, but after years of Pokerface type-crap, it's perfectly reasonable that the general public can't see through the cheap branding and see a mature talent.
Saw the movie this weekend on iTunes. My opinion of Lady Gaga has done a 180. And Bradly Cooper is the shite. The way he changed his voice for the movie was impressive. All I could think about after the movie was, "Coors, the banquet beer" in Sam Elliott's voice.
But I'm not into pop music so my knowledge of Lady Gaga before the movie nonexistent. I was pleasantly surprised. She is super talented.
After that I found a couple of other Bradly Cooper movies...American Sniper and Limitless. Limitless was fantastic too.

I did not know that was Dice during the movie. I found out shortly after.
I showed my teenage son old YouTube video's of Dice's stand up shortly after the movie and we laughed our arse off. Dice would never be able to pull off that kind of stand up in today's SJW culture.

Noticed that too. But I believe that's the difference with someone that has marginal musical talent that learned it the past year and a person born with exceptional musical talent who has be practicing it all her life.
