the auditions are maddening.

They've gotten worse over the years and I can't stand Hollywood week any longer. The new judges just don't grab me. I tried to watch when they came on, but stopped.

I saw Alejandro's audition in a clip. He's the reason I'll probably start watching live shows or at least maybe by Top 14. Watching for 4 hours this week wasn't happening. I'm watching The Voice already. I like it.

I'm a grown arse man but I'll fight anyone who gets on me for loving American Idol.

Nothing on TV gives me goosebumps like when someone walks up for an audition looking like they are going to be terrible, they open their mouths and out pours the voice of an angel while the judges Jaws drop.

Shayla (the blind teenager) made me cry. I'll meet anyone at sonic who has anything to say about that.

I’m with ya baw!

The guy at the end of the first episode that lost both his brothers, and Luke sharing that pain, absolutely choked me up.

Haven’t seen second episode yet but glad this thread is up and running

Luke Bryan, who I’d never even heard of before this show (not a country music fan), is fricking great. Seems like a good ol baw for sure.

Lionel really tries to give them solid advice and is kind of funny like when he got all bent out of shape at that kid who couldn’t name one of his songs

And Katy doesn’t take herself seriously and at the very least genuinely seems to enjoy it and buys into the Idol experience for these aspiring musicians.

That’s what Idol is most about for me. I enjoy seeing these people step in front of three stars that can either give them the chance of a lifetime or send them home. As someone with no musical talent I’m always mesmerized by the journey and Idol production does a great job of putting together a quick bio to turn these regular people into characters you root for and empathize with, at least in the auditions stage.

But that carries over to the later rounds and we always have favorites that we root for based on these auditions.

Hollywood week I could do without but I love the auditions, and these judges do that part very well, even if they aren’t the best at giving advice during the live shows.

But that’s where I care less about the judges and always have. I can make my own judgement live, but in these recorded and edited segments they add a lot to the story of the show.

Watching tonight for the first time in years. Talent level is far better than I remember. I could easily believe at least a couple are already stars, including the 27 y/o man with the abusive dad and the 16 y/o girl who just played piano.

Not sure if it’s recency bias but this years auditions have shown some amazing talent.. Hollywood week will be a bloodbath of some of the cuts.

these judges try to make the show more about them than the contestants. constantly getting up from behind the table to take the spotlight off of the contestant.

these 3 are already stars. Let the others have their moment.

I agree. These judges suck compared to the original 3.

They are way too soft. They need a Simon type to put them in there place.

Did anyone see the country red he’d half Black kid? He’s one of 13 kids and none of the dads are around. The white mom was like 35. Sad

Just finished watching the latest auditions

Katy Perry just cannot stand not being the center of attention. She has to have the spot light on her at all times. Even if it means singing over a person who is singing for a chance to win this contest.

Yeah then she was looking for sympathy for being a single mom... You’d think she would throw in the towel after the 3rd or 4th bastard.

There seems to be so much talent this year that it's assured someone amazing will be left out of thr top 24.

I'm really happy for Laine

He was kicked out way too early last season. I actually thought he should have won, but he struggled fitting in during group week, IMO. He seems much more polished and not nervous now.

Alejandro or whatever his name is.. is my #1 and Laine is my #2 so far. Easily these are my top 2, but there is some great talent.

Even Luke Bryan, who sings in front of thousands at concerts, said how nerve wracking it was to go up there and sing in front of the other judges.

That young man with CF had the greatest attitude. I admire people like him.

The talent this season is pretty ridiculous. Hollywood week will weed out some good singers though.
