I honestly thought the first 5 episodes of TD were about the best TV i had ever seen.
other than cole being superhuman, i agree. it created a very interesting and engaging universe and mythology
quote:
But you were right. With all they had built it was impossible to resolve it in 3 episodes in a satisfying way that complemented the dark supernatural tone they had set up in first 5 episodes. So it was a let down.
the worst part was they basically thumbed their nose at the thing that drove interest in the show...and then people were so emotionally pot committed in liking the show that they pulled a legit 1-fricking-80 and acted like they never REALLY cared about the supernatural stuff

What GRRM has built in the first 5 books is just too vast. I dont think he knows how he can resolve it in 2 reasonably sized books and that is why he is struggling.
i agree. i think he's spread his stories out too thin, pulling them away from the stuff that really drove the plot
quote:
Things that seem very important to us book readers get shite on by the show because I guess GRRM is going to shite on them in the books to bring this to the Dany/Jon ending we know is coming. Everything else is superfluous.
i think the show is also pushing characters that the fans love so they can get the fix as opposed to efficient storytelling (again, the essos scenes last episode perfectly show this. but they had to get arya, danny, and tyrion screen time so their fans would be happy)

Shitting on episodes that the general consensus says are good episodes for the sake of being contrarian.
you are totally off base here. calling something overrated =/= shitting on it. hardhome is overrated because of the large scale infatuation with zombies and shite. it was a pretty good episode, and nothing more
quote:
Yep.
Both are insufferable.

yasssss. been saying this since S1 concluded.

That translates to the show where they have to cherry pick bits and pieces of the book. Things that seem very important to us book readers get shite on by the show because I guess GRRM is going to shite on them in the books to bring this to the Dany/Jon ending we know is coming. Everything else is superfluous.
a lot of this is true. doesn't excuse the lazy, walking dead-level "made for TV" writing that David and Dan are coming up with. characters may meet similar fates, but the way D&D have been carrying them out is cringeworthy

can anyone explain the "Because you have no cock" joke from episode 1? it's basically the symbol of the shitty writing lately to me
the jaime/cersei scene was also a bad step, imho

that's a version of what I was proposing
the showrunners are trying to intertwine fanservice with effective TV storytelling techniques, and the end result is....meh

Varys was telling Tyrion that he used to steal from nobles like him when he was a boy. Tyrion says that it's a good thing he's not a boy anymore. Not in the sense that he's not young, but because he has no cock. Basically throwing it in Varys' face.

i mean i know he threw it in varys's face, but it's kind of like storm telling toad what happens when toads face electricity
she threw that in toad's face, too

Its a double narrative. Whenever Tyrion says its a good thing he isn't a boy anymore, it can mean two things. His starkness (no pun intended) about making sure that Varys knew which one he was talking about, IMHO, doesn't make it any less funny.
