I've been a DirecTV loyalist for years and I knew that there were cheaper options available, but I never had any problems with them and was willing to pay a little extra for continuity of service and also the combined phone/tv bill discount with AT&T was nice.

I did the math on what it would cost me to cancel and switch to Youtube TV. i thought I would be losing some big discount on the combined bill thing - turns out the discount is applied to the TV side only and not phone, so I'm losing nothing. With my package, sports add ons, fees, and protection plans I was paying $166/month. Now going to Youtube TV for $72.99. Really a no brainer.

After this ESPN fiasco with the LSU game, I finally said screw it. I just called and cancelled. It took probably 10 minutes. They offered me a $20 credit to my bill for the month for losing those channels, no thanks.

We’d have to set up a separate alarm and arrange monitoring. ADT already literally cost us a house when thieves and vandals ruined our other house and ADT kept billing for months without ever alerting us the system was not functioning due to the equipment being ripped off the walls and floating in the water when the criminals cut the water pipe for the brass.

Sounds like you have quite the story to tell.

I have told it before on other boards so I will give the short version here…

I lived on the family property in the house my parents had built for my grandparents to live out their days without worrying about it. The place was middle of nowhere really near the north end of Toledo Bend. I was there when my dad died suddenly and my mother needs help to be independent so I moved in and moved location with her.

Then my health fell apart and we couldn’t get over to keep up the family place. Thieves broke in and cleaned out almost literally everything. On the way out they took the water heater and cut the brass pipe flooding the house as dad the civil engineer had made sure the foundation was flat and level.

I lost all my possessions. I have a small closet for all my clothes and shoes and socks and underwear. I have a nightstand for miscellaneous items. That’s it except for my desk top and laptop computers and my cellphone and car. (Had moved with those)

Insurance refused to pay for anything due to exclusions regarding the time left unchecked. ADT never notified us anything was wrong even though the records show the system was not working and was not responding. Just kept billing. The water bill never fluctuated and the company was great, did not even send a bill for the final month much less for thousands of gallons. (Water was running out both front and back doors).

You are right. But if DirectTV just folds, they will pass the increase off to the consumer.

Yep. But then they will lose consumers due to rate hikes and in the end their profits will most likely suffer more than if they would just come to an agreement with ESPN and keep prices the same.

I guess it all depends on how elastic the demand for their product turns out to be.

And I disagree. There is a really big difference. It isn't just in the extra clicks it takes.

Unless it has changed you can't remove episodes that you have already watched or even mark them as watched. And it becomes a big mess when talking about multiple series.

I don't have Spectrum so I don't have that problem but glad it's working for you.

I’m about to… signed up for YouTube tv yesterday.

Just red here fubo has space city network, so maybe I made a mistake.

Question in fubo… does it include espn, or so you have to have separate app? Was a little confused on their website…

You can mark stuff as watched in the web browser if you want. When you pull up your library you can click to filter it to new stuff or reruns. It's not the best interface I'll agree but it's not that difficult.

I called yesterday and it took me 40 minutes to get them on the phone. I have been a customer for 15 years. I told them I am done and it has to do with the dispute as well as my bill being $240 a month. They ultimately gave me a $30 credit, are sending me a $100 gift card, upgraded me to a VIP customer and lowered my bill to $120 a month for the next 2 years.

For me to get YouTubeTV and Hulu would be roughly that amount a month so I decided to stick with them for now.

Total time on the phone was 1 hour

I cancelled yesterday, and thankfully only took about 5 minutes.

I always drop at the end of the Braves season anyway and move to YTTV.

I gave them the boot years ago. Had I not, I definitely would have after this. They do this every year with some station and do it right when everyone wants to watch. The year I dropped them they blacked out FOX right as baseball playoffs were starting.

I just called them to cancel and apparently being a customer for 15+ years didn't mean a thing. She processed my cancel and didn't offer a thing

I was nice too. Just told her I got Starlink and went to streaming. She didn’t even offer DirecTV stream. I’m sure by now they’ve been beat to death by mean people.

Cancelled them a long time ago.

Have Hulu+Live TV - with no ads - has it all (Disney+ and Hulu). ATT gives me Max and I pay my annual Prime. Cut out Netflix - don’t miss it. That’s it for me - all I need.

All cheaper than Direct TV

100% digital - can watch wherever and whenever I want.

Gonna start a 7 day free trial Saturday for Fubo

That’ll get me 2 weeks of games and maybe that’ll get me through the hiatus

I'm a long time customer of DirectTV. I called to cancel. They thanked me for being a loyal customer. Told them I was canceling over the Disney thing. They offered me a one time $20.00 refund to stay.

I told them I would reconsider staying if they would work with me on pricing. I have Premier Package. I was extremely nice.

Nope, they happily canceled me with no other offers.

I guess they DGAF. And now I need to find new streaming service. Everything I've read seems to point to YouTube TV?

I kept ATT internet, as we just got the Fiber Optic. Hopefully, that won't be affected.

I went to YTTV and absolutely love it. It takes a little getting used to the live portion where on the DirecTV guide, you could enter 500 and see the movie channels or 205 and get the sports channels, but once you get how to look by category, you’re good. Plus the DVR is unlimited and you can set shows to add to your on demand library as they air.
