It's more suspenseful than scary.
Exactly what I came away with. I also went into it with zero expectations which helped me enjoy it for what it was.
Also like a poster stated, it was an interesting premise but zero depth in the story. Hard to have much depth when only one aspect of the the supernatural exists.
The multiple mack truck wide plot holes are an issue but the movie moves along pretty good to not ruin the experience completely.
Bullock did a great job with the main character but if there was any redemptive purpose of the character it is easily missed because the premise/ creature completely overshadowed her story. Also the redemption story would have been much more interesting if Bullock and Malkovich would have hooked up and Malkovich giving his life to save them.

watched it last night.
it was basically a professionally shot Blair Witch Project (the original one).
which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
not seeing “them” leads each viewer to create their own horror.
but overall, the movie was just ok. wasn’t great. wasn’t terrible.

Umm no but nice attempt at straw-manning. People want an intelligent film. If the movie is set in current society, then people want an honest representation of that. Hollywood LOVES to write their own version of society because it gives them social brownie points. In this movie they went for broke with the brownie points. White women who doesnt want her kid, needs a black man to show her how to be a parent. They cast one asian male and right off the bat they make sure you know he’s gay, because God forbid there be a strong, heterosexual asian. Police officer is a female, who then abandons everyone. Older white heterosexual male is a problem to the whole group. The other white straight male is a psycho who kills everyone. I have zero problem with any one of these scenarios. But when you know hollywood’s tendencies, and you have a group of 7 people who act very statisticallh diferrent than current sociological studies reflect, to the deteiment of the films integrity, and its painfully obvious that the studio is pulling some social justice warrior crap, youre going to get pushback from people who arent sleep walking through this life.

So long as folks like Franklin Leonard and his Blacklist project exist, we're going to be force-fed PC/SJW nonsense movies/TV.
Dig into him... Dude is connected in all the worst ways with the worst folks.

so some paranormal force is driving the entire world to commit suicide, a woman with two kids successfully travel down river alone & blindfolded for a couple days, three birds survive drowning in a cardboard box underwater, and the unbelievable part is that the people are “statistically different than society”?
really?
i mean would the movie have really been any better/worse/different if the gay asian was a straight white dude instead?

No and I agree with you. All that sh** you mentioned is highly problematic. So they made a stupid arse movie, and instead of putting effort into making a less stupid movie, they consciously put effort into making sure they got their PC stripes.
If the movie was great then none of that stuff would stand out, but also if it was great then it creators wouldnt have been so shallow as to allow those forced social aspects. Instead they got a director who I imagine had no problem opening up his or her film’s preverbial rectum and letting the studio go to town on it.
This film will be ultimately a non-factor. Noone will talk about it in 3-5 years. It will not hold up and will only become more laughable with time. People will defend it now because its new and theyre embarassed at how they thought a dumb film was smart at first. Ive been there.

No, but I would have watched the rest of it.
Movies are generally supposed to be fictitious and have plot holes. They're not supposed to follow a pattern of White man bad! Independent lib woman good! Minorities harmless! Asians gay!

which character was really a stretch?
i mean i live in a small town and nowhere even close to the west coast (where movie is actually set) and i know multiple people who fit the same decsriltion of the characters.
even the cop and druggy hooking up and running away (except genders were flip flopped from the ones i know).
hell the old white a-hole part could have been written about my neighbor and been pretty damn close.

Started great, grabs ya, but 1/2 way through it's turns into a slow burn to the end, movie was 30+ minutes to long. Had so much promise..... :(

Yuck. Even Hollywood isn't this weird. Don't need to see old geezer with hot babe.
I'd want to be blindfolded. Because watching that would make my worst movie fear reappear.
That would have been a time machine to Kathy Bates Hot Tub nude.

I can't believe every time I check the newest posts to see if anyone has a decent review of this movie, it's about the characters and the SJW bullshite.
If all you're doing is looking for force fed political viewpoints/SJW bullshite then I feel sorry for you.
Just enjoy (or not enjoy) the got damn movie for its plot, acting, music/score, climax, ending, etc...
If you hate this movie because John Malkovich played the angry white guy pissed at his neighbor who just so happened to be a gay Asian (pretty sure B.D. Wong played a gay role/cross dressing role in Mr. Robot too), that is pathetic. I saw a post earlier complaining about Sandra Bullock's character being a white lady who didn't want kids and then having a black man telling her how to be a parent and how that triggered people. GIVE ME A frickIN BREAK! Again, if that's how you watch movies these days then it's your own fault you don't enjoy them.

No singular character was a stretch. I have known or been friends with people who fit the respective roles of those in the movie. Well I have never known a gaysian but theyre out there for sure. Hell half of thailand.
Its when you throw them all together that the pc stuff starts eroding the story. Its just propoganda and I dont like it. Most of our major wars were started with media propoganda one way or another. In WW1 we legit thought that it was normal practice for germans to eat babies. I call propoganda out when I see it, right wing or left. But if its a hollywood film you can nearly guarantee which side the propoganda is coming from.

Exactly. Hollywood takes every opportunity to push liberalism. Why wouldnt it be a major premise/goal of their movies?

Well there are some here who think that is a conspiracy theory.
A liberal theme doesn’t turn me off to a movie. Its when those themes get in the way of the art that I get pissed. Or if you make a crap movie but then take the time to push pc sh**, that aggravates me.

Im a sci/fi nerd so my opinion is biased, but I liked it. There were holes of course (the bird shite at that school for the blind) but overall good 2 hour flick.

Omg some of these takes about the movie being a sjw propaganda film
Do you people look for that shite in every little thing? You're as bad as the people you accuse of doing so.

I enjoyed Book of Eli This is the End The Happening Blair Witch Project 28 Days Later I Am Legend.
You don’t have to look too deep to see that they are following the SJW playbook for casting, but it doesn’t ruin the movie. They should have cast Hannibal Burriss as the grocery store guy and 50 Cent as Tom.
Spoiler.... absolutely she should have made that little girl look and the end should have been a utopia developed by her dad. Bullock could have had a Jodie Foster Contact-esque “Hi Sparks” meeting with her pops. Also, the worst acting job was the doctor at the end. She greeted Bullock like they were coworkers who coincidentally ran into each other at a casual lunch spot.
