This is the dynamic that's been holding my attention the most. I'm wondering if Al's "cap in hand" apology isn't a setup for a potential takeover.

Johnny Torrio and Capone stayed together and ran a successful family in Chicago until the mid-20's when Torrio retired to Italy and turned the operation over to Capone. Capone stays loyal to him.
quote:Lucky stays loyal to Rothstein until his death. He and Lansky stayed loyal to Rothstein until his death in '28, even as their power/influence was growing in the Italian mafia w/ Joe Masseria.
How long until Lucky feels that he is capable of doing his own thing and out from under the wing of Rothstein?
I'd say the only drawback to a show that's so based in history is you know certain guys are untouchable. When Jimmy had Lucky apparently cornered and dead at his mom's house, we all knew Lucky would get away some how. Last night when Lansky was tied up on his knees, we all knew he would get out alive so there was no suspense with him.
That's a minor complaint though, and I LOVE the use of historical characters b/c the American mafia has always been a topic of personal fascination.

I've lost Omar once before. I can't lose him again.

I wouldnt be that upset if Chalky died.
It does take some of the drama away because I knew Lucky wasnt going down and Meyer was going to make it out the warehouse.

One question, where are Mickey Doyle's loyalties really? Is he aligned with Nucky again, or aligned with the Italian brothers and Rothstein and only going back to Nucky as a way to ultimately let Rothstein and Luciano get him?

I think he's back with Nucky. He spilled the beans that led to the 2 murders in the warehouse. He knew that the Italians would eventually kill him and took his chances with going back to Nucky.

quote:they said in one of those "making of" specials that they changed Nucky's name b/c they wanted to have him do different things in the show than in real life. I think that would apply to any other characters too--if they're true to history, real names are used, if the show planned to take extensive liberties, then the names were altered.
However, Nucky's real name was Nucky Johnson, not Nucky Thompson. There are a few other characters with small name variations. I guess they did it with the lesser known characters only and not the well known names like Al and Lucky

Arnold Rothstein, who is believed to have fixed the 1919 World Series is a real person who dies in 1928. The show is taking place in 1920 so i doubt if he gets knocked off anytime soon.
Correct. And they just showed that women won the right to vote.....That ammendment passed in Aug 1920. So historically, they've still got a long way to go with this show.

Count me as one of the people who arent that enthralled with this show. The last few sundays ive fallen asleep while watching it.
There are much better tv shows on right now. Boardwalk empire is just boring.
