I find the Chromecast the most convenient.

i prefer the roku streaming stick (more apps and free channels with free 3rd party apps as well) for $50 and i love using plex to stream any file off my computer wirelessly to the tv. with the roku version of plex you can set it to continually play your files as if you would have a tv staying on..plex is $5 a month, but well worth it to me as opposed to say hulu.
the chromecast is good if you do want to cast browser tabs.
i also think that it's farrr easier to cut the cord if you live by yourself and know what you are doing.. as opposed to having an entire family to satisfy.. i would probably still get some sort of generic cable plan.. they have cheap plans around 40 or 60.. but as someone else said the price gets crazy once you start adding boxes.. and to me this just seems easier to rely on then having to get everybody an antenna.
another thing i always see people saying.. i pay 140 for cable.. but then they act like that is for the tv only when it is including cable internet in that package too.. and i would never get at&t internet or settle on some other very expensive internet that is far less bang for the buck.
LUS Fiber looks like a great deal in Lafayette, but they won't expand their coverage. I literally live less than a quarter mile outside of their service area off of Ambassador.
I've asked them to please expand for the past 4 years.

Yes, but there's not much on TV I care to watch anyway, so it's not much of a hardship to me, TBH.

As long as I can afford it (and that should not be a problem in the foreseeable future), I will have cable TV and internet. It boils down to priorities and excellent TV reception/selection and internet is a priority for our family.

UVerse just gave me a great deal- Basically high enough speed wireless internet ( I stream Netflix, other things no problem), U300 package plus premiums like HBO and Showtime, built in DVR and TV within TV capability for $100 a month. They also sent me 2 $100 gift cards as a thank your for joining. SO I would ask around. They are all scavenging right now and would likely give you a better deal than you have.

By they, you mean Uverse. Cox is raping people in the arse in BR. I just got raped because Uverse wasn't available on my end of the street where I just moved to

Try calling ATT and getting them to install it. They just did so in my neighborhood this year.

The Handbook Comcast Employees Use to Keep You From Leaving
quote:
The rep you heard on the call works in Comcast's retention department, which is where anyone trying to cancel their account gets sent as a last ditch effort by Comcast to keep them on. And these reps are instructed to do pretty much anything they can to make that happen. Per the handbook, each call is divided into 13 sections:
1. Greet customer clearly
2. Clarify reason for call
3. Relate and empathize
4. Take control
5. Set the agenda
6. Ask targeted questions
7. Consider unstated needs / active listening
8. Take ownership / make offer
9. Overcome objections
10. Close the save
11. Confirm details
12. End on a positive note
13. Documentation
quote:
So barring death or natural disaster, if you want to cancel Comcast, you better get comfortable—you're in it for the long haul.

I haven't had cable for 4 years now.

How do you watch LSU road games? How do you watch LSU baseball? How do you watch Hornets games? How do you watch college football? How do you watch Saints games that aren't on Fox, NBC, or CBS?
If you want to find it, it's out there. I've never had any trouble finding any sports stream. Whether that's firstrow, WatchESPN, JustinTV, or any other thousand services out there that don't charge. This is all assuming that the OP doesn't want to pay for premium streams. If he does then there's a shite ton of those as well. There's the occasional LSU baseball game that I don't get, but it's usually one I'm not itching to watch anyway.
The bigger the game, the easier it is to find. Pro sports are the easiest, followed by the major college sports like football and basketball.

I think firstrow has become a bit spottier from the last time I tried it.

For anyone who has the Roku Stick, and may have had the Roku 3 what are the major differences? I have the Roku 3 in one of our rooms and am trying to figure out if forking out money for the 3 is a better choice than the stick.

if i ditched my cable from comcast, would i have access to all the ESPN games if i got apple TV, as long as i kept their (comcast) internet service?
Posted on 8/4/14 at 11:13 pm to USAF Hart
I did it for 8 years, I missed it for like a week. Then I found other more productive shite to do.

Been without cable for a year. One of the best decisions I have made. I do not miss it one bit.
