Reading the thread I seem to be in the minority with the club scene. I get someone liking seeing a planet with a different vibe that we are used to but it felt a little too much like I was watching Dune Euphoria.
I don't understand why they needed to include that scene yet either. Now that her husband is cooked maybe something could come of it though

Definitely not a necessary scene, but it was nice seeing that a normal society functions under the surface. I guess it was just more unexpected than anything else. A good unexpected....albeit unnecessary.

Yeah, I forgot this was only 6 episodes until today.

Not trying to be a hater but I thought the first episode sucked.
The very beginning with the dialogue over the battle with the machines was awesome. The entire opening until the time jump should have been like that Fellowship-style intro because we did not have enough time to develop a connection to the characters and the characters had to do a lot of exposition. Alternatively, the time before the time jump should have been stretched out for several episodes like house of the dragon.
After the time jump, the characters continued to do a lot of telling instead of showing. The visuals were awesome but a show where the characters run around telling each other what they’re doing and why is boring as hell.
I’ll reserve judgement because I’m not sure if the writers strike caused a compressed schedule. That really hurt the end of house of the dragon.

on a scale of 1-10, how woke is this show?

This is a very fair criticism. While I enjoyed it, the pacing felt pretty off for that reason and the reason you brought up RE the time jumps.

Felt like a 0 to me. But it is a show about a female order. It wasn't like they threw it in your face, though. They just went on with the story without really addressing it.

The Jedi are a ripoff of the bene gesserit which has always been only females.

Fun fact I learned last night. The Bene Gesserit are rip-offs of the Jesuits on Banks and Carrollton which has always been an all girls school.

I agree with your assessment.

I tried watching this, but I did not do a very good job. I didn't really understand alot of it and felt like I may have to watch a Youtube video longer than the actual show run time to understand it. I did not want to invest the time into the show it likely required, so I deleted it. I am not the intended audience for the show, but I am sure the edgelords will argue like hell on this board about this show. Dune nerds are really a different breed in my experience and not my cup of tea.

I mean do you really think you're supposed to understand everything one episode in? There's obviously a lot of mystery to the show, even for Dune nerds.

Not going to hate on this assessment at all.
It took me reading the original book twice before I "got" it. I've still never finished the 4th book, it just gets too heady for me.
Now - I abosolutely love the Dune universe and would literally watch a 10 hour documentary on how they terraform or build ships.
The size, scope, scale of everything is so daunting to me. I wish it were more fleshed out on the big screen but its just impossible.
