Saw it last night in IMAX. I might go see it in 70mm since I don't have a 70mm IMAX in Oregon.

It was a fantastic movie. The audio was well done too. The opening scene...not spoiling.

I will say it's a bit choppy but if you're a paitient movie watcher, Nolan explains how it ties together usually in the next scene or two.

Very good movie, but not in the same league as Saving Private Ryan. Zero character development. Probably will get the best cinematography Oscar.

It's July.... I don't know what's coming out but there's always a group that gets released late in the year specifically for the oscars

Just got out

That was incredible, I actually felt the fear of those men as they saw the dive bombers approaching. It has the most anxiety invoking soundtrack I've ever heard.

It's a completely different kind of war film, to the point where comparing them is almost pointless.

I will say that at no point in SPR did I ever become as immersed as I was for the entirity of Dunkirk. You really feel like you're there in the middle of the chaos.

That was Nolans goal and I really feel like he pulled it off. It was an incredible viewing experience for me.

I don't get people comparing it to a normal war movie.

It's one of the most impressively shot films I've ever seen. And I know the end result, but I was still incredibly anxious for 90+ minutes. As in, I actually felt my pulse at one point.

5 minutes after leaving the theater I was impressed, but a little mixed.

Now 6 hours after, I'm plotting when I can see it again in the theater.

Just got out. Ambitious, well-made, and technically marvelous, but deeply lacking in characterization (yes I know that it wasn't the point, but it doesn't matter - you have to have some kind of connection to the characters). The sound design is as good as we'll see this year, though the score isn't as good as everyone has hyped it to be, and it's too overbearing. A good movie that will probably clean up the sound awards at the award shows.

3/5.

My only real gripe. They could've dialed it back some or not included any at all for some scenes to let the desperation sink in instead of blasting the score from scene to scene. I couldn't understand a few words they said too.

I think one of the reviews I read said it best: If you don't connect with the characters in this film that says something about you, not the film.

The movie was designed to make you feel like you're there experiencing it with them. To feel their anxiety and fear. To that end, it does its job as well as any movie I've seen.

Or it says something about the script

It was a fun, thrilling theater experience, but that's about it. Yes, it makes you feel like you're another anonymous soldier trying to get out, but it was still too hollow for my taste.

Not when the setting is the major character. You modern film students still have a lot to learn.

Zero character development

There wasn't supposed to be. Why do people keep saying this?

Do you believe that Nolan attempted to flesh out Hardy's pilot character and failed? No. He didn't even attempt to and that was the point.

I went through to see some justification for the very few rotten reviews this movie received on RT. They all said that same thing.

They should have their keyboards burned.

This chick for instance:

quote:

At a relatively short running time for an "epic", the characters are not developed enough to allow us to care about their survival.

Their survival?

The movie was about their survival?

Oh, ok. Those were the stakes I guess.

Zero character development...imax. So is this like one of those museum imax movies like volcano or rain forest or something? Just watch it because it's pretty and has good sound?

Some people just don't get it.

Saw it in 70MM imax and it was jaw dropping.

I don't see how anyone can say there needed to be character development.

I saw it and loved it, but it had narrative weaknesses as some of the reviews have said.

I think someone who knew less than me about dunkirk going into that movie would have had a more difficult time appreciating the story, because the movie didn't frame it all that well itself.

Still liked it

I have an aunt that instead of saying something true and derogatory about some will just say "God bless their heart."

God bless your heart.

The sound was amazing.
