#Eternals grossed $9.5M from domestic THU pre-shows - 3rd best of pandemic behind #BlackWidow ($13.2M) & #Venom2 ($11.6M) and ahead of $8.8M of #ShangChi from 2 months ago. Hopes to reach opening wknd #boxoffice in $70M area. Reviews not too strong but RT aud score a good 86%.

Strong international numbers as well

Disney reporting $19.8M INT total for #Eternals till THU (higher than me, that's new). Better than expected debut in LATAM & others. Now tracking for $85-90M opening weekend off-shore.

Visible thrusting. About 20 second scene

I dont think many people were expecting it to flop. Marvel is always going to make money and they promoted this like crazy. Its the reviews that are the surprise. Every trailer looked terrible, but I just assumed no matter what it was going to get good reviews.
Didnt read the thread because of spoilers, but what is the boards general consensus?

In the theatre now. Expectations are low. But a matinee ticket is like $7 bucks and Marvel doesn’t disappoint so let’s roll

No one went and saw this yet? Even Black Widow and Shang Chi had discussion threads.
1. The movie was great. Not typical Marvel but has LOTR vibes with the history and Celestial stuff.
2. Didn't expect Robb Stark to be the bad guy.
Post Credit Scenes: HOLY shite
Jon Snow is a future Avenger
Thanos Brother!
Was that Kangs voice at the end?

I don’t really understand the critiques… I thoroughly enjoyed the movie
As a matter of fact… this had the most diverse cast (something Hollywood deeply cares about) and it didn’t feel forced at all (as compared to the cringey girl power scene in Endgame).
Idk, I thought it was one of the better marvel movies.

Two of my teenagers fell asleep during it. Pretty damn boring at parts. Doubt I’d ever watch it again but both end credit scenes were great.
Thought that was Fury’s voice at the end.

#Eternals has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any MCU film. "I think this speaks to a larger problem...any time a woman takes on the action genre, people come harder at that filmmaker," says @ByClaytonDavis. | Variety The Take presented by @AppleTV
2017 Wonder Woman had people crawling over broken glass to praise Patty Jenkins. Deborah Chow got universal acclaim for her part in getting the Mandalorian off the ground and Star Wars fans were practically orgasmic when she got the nod to run Obi-Wan. Hell, Bryce Dallas Howard is a fairly in demand action director with three Star Wars directing gigs (she's got one of the Book of Bobba Fett episodes) and an upcoming action/comedy movie.
People will absolutely support an action movie starring a woman or directed by a woman... if it is a good movie. If it sucks, yeah the knives are going to come out.
I still say that if I'm the Supreme High Potentate of Disney and I have an indie director looking to make a big step up I'd give them an episode of a Marvel or Star Wars Disney+ show to get their feet wet. Maybe let folks splash around in the kiddie pool instead of tossing them into the deep end.

This movie was better than the critics score.
It’s better than Shang Chi, for example.
Blades voice confused everyone.

Truly don’t get the critic response, this seemed right up their alley. It’s a different type of Marvel movie but I really liked that about it. The cinematography and scale is top notch and some of the best in the entire franchise. Arishem was jaw dropping, particularly when he comes to Earth at the end. Marvel is going to do Galactus justice one day and it’s going to be legendary, everything we ever wanted but never got from those F4 movies.
It’s hard to tell the story of so many new characters and make people care, but I thought they did a pretty good job. I want to see more of those who survived and I found something to like in all the Eternals, though did think Salma/Ajak was a bit shallow. The relationships between Makkari/Druig, Thena/Gilgamesh, and Phastos’ family were well done, Ikaris/Sersi grew on me but seemed a bit wooden and I thought she had much more natural chemistry with Dane/Kit’s character. I cannot wait to see more of him. Angelina Jolie was a standout I wasn’t expecting. LOVED Kingo and Karun, they were highlights of the film.
The pacing and non-linear narrative kept me engaged though I was confused a couple of times on what timeframe we were seeing. Scenery was stunning past and present. Deviants seemed like a nearly pointless plot device but Celestials and the history of all of them was really cool. I am a bit disappointed there was no mention of the x gene, but we’re clearing full on multiverse before getting to mutants in 2-3 years or so.
All in all, it’s by no means the best MCU movie but not even close to the bottom. Upper half and fringe top 10 imo which does a great job of world building the cosmic side. We are light years beyond phase 1 at this point.
