They specifically talked about how they thought he was "charging up" for something after eating the nuclear plant and then killing the other kaiju and absorbing it's energy. The change to pink was clearly him transforming like his transformation in other movies.

It was clearly shown. They show him go to fight a glowing pink titan, say he's absorbing the energy, and he leaves there pink.

Legendary screwed up in 2014 by not making that film in a serious tone a la minus one.
Even a pure remake of 1954 with modern filmmaking would've been better than what we ended up with.

I started it and cut it off after 30 minutes. Maybe it'd be fun to watch if I was on mushrooms

I was disappointed that the Godzilla doing Othello scene was cut from the movie. The film lost gravitas after that.

Godzilla being pink wasn't even in the top 20 of things wrong with this movie.
