Right. Black people can never be the targets of jokes. In fact, saying anything about black people is racist.

And all Republicans are national jokes anyway.

Again, it's all about how you say it. If you look like you're spewing venom, you're more likely to be viewed unfavorably.

It works both ways.

I think Bill Maher looks like an a-hole every time he opens his mouth.

wasn't the joke bout the older daughter? Or is the target disputed?
letterman claimed a day after the fact it was about the older daughter,,but it was the 14 yr old that was in new york with her

I like dave,, but I think he copped out,,
if it was the 14 yr old in NY and not the 18 yr old,, who would u think it was about

and lets face it,, some writer wrote the joke and had no idea who it was that was in town and was just going for the cheap easy laugh,.,WHICH im a fan of

but you cant make similarly stupid jokes about black people or the left

yea its totally different if it was the 14 year old, which we'll never prolly know for sure. i say completely fricked up politically incorrect shite all the time just joking around, so i think people overreact too much to all of it. while i think imus's comments were worse, i dont think he shoulda been fired.

When you learn to refute my point, sure.

Which of your points am I supposed to refute?

Letterman comes across as far more mean-spirited than Imus. Imus by comparison is almost nondescript. In fact even when Letterman was actually funny and had the best late night show I've ever seen (1980s on NBC) he still came across as an a-hole.

Oh c'mon. Imus' appearance makes him look like an old, mean, son of a bitch. Dude looks so old and out of touch that he should be on paper currency.

Seriously, does he not look like one of our founding fathers?

Agreed, TigerMyth! Let's keep this board free of Politard hacks.

Uh, "Old" does not equal "a-hole". Some fascinating ageism going on.

Have you ever even listened to Imus? He sounds as if he's about to fall asleep.

Lettterman gives off a negative vibe, as if he resents being on TV and is going to take it out on everybody. Granted he's always been like this to a degree and in a way it's part of his shtick. It's just more pronounced now.

That was the most back handed apology I had ever heard. If Letterman had made that comment about either Obama kids, he would have been fired on the spot. And whether it was her 14 year old or her 18 year old, it was tacky.

It does when you act like an old a-hole.

"Have you ever even listened to Imus? He sounds as if he's about to fall asleep."

Not more than a few times, because he nearly put me sleep. Much like you, I don't find him to be interesting.

You clearly don't get his sense of humor. You're probably more of a Leno guy. Just pop in your DVD copies of "Everybody Loves Raymond" for some real comedy- that seems to be right up your alley.

Agreed. But Sarah Palin is a national joke, so he can get away with it.

That was the worst apology since Doyle apologized to Frank and Karl in Slingblade.

"I'm sorry but I don't like wimpy kids, or retards or figs and I got one of each."

He apologized by explaining how she was wrong in her interpretation of the joke along with REPEATING the same jokes all over again. His writers probably thought that was a hoot to apologize while repeating the same material over again.

She is no less of a joke than Hillary Clinton. IMO...All politicians are free game when it comes to making jokes. And I am a fan of Dave, but I think he crossed the line. I think Dave is getting a pass for this cause it's a GOP politician. The real loser in all this is Conan O'Brian.

Very good post.

Although, I think it's more that Dave can get away with this joke because it's Sarah Palin, not necessarily because Sarah Palin is a member of the GOP.

Deservedly so, considering his oldest kid is, like, 11. No excuse he really could've made there.
