They were, though the last one was a bit of a mess. I think Stieg Larsson died before he finished it and it was in need of serious editing.

I never read it but I really enjoyed the first 3. the first one is an amazing slow burn that once it picks up it just a runaway train.
I love novels that are obvious self inserts. Something about an investigative journalist writing a book about an investigative journalist who has sex with almost every female character is hilarious to me.
You know he had to Find and Replace Steig for Mikael before sending it to a publisher.
