Who on that show isn't inconsistent. Rip has no problems with murder but reports a shot grizzly to fish & wildlife.
Jamie punches his sister then like a week later rushes to her with career advice.

I didn't like Beth until I found out why she hated Jamie. Imagine your brother had you sterilized without you knowing it. Of course you'd also have to imagine that you're a woman.

I thought everyone hated Beth. Isn't that the main point of her writing?

Beth Dutton was a symbol of why I didn't like that show and am growing weary of modern entertainment.
Having something bad happen to you is regrettable and certainly explains erratic behavior, but it shouldn't be an all-encompassing excuse for being a monster. Breaking Bad at least made Walter White vulnerable and gave a lot of context on his descent into being what he was. With Beth, you're just introduced to an absolutely unlikeable nightmare of a person, and then they give you the context almost as an afterthought. Personally I'm just tired of the anti-hero routine and how far modern entertainment likes to push it. There really are no redeemable characters on that ranch, but Beth is easily the most unlikeable.

Jamie was trying to help her out, and he was also young, and immature at the time. It wasn't some kind of malicious act by him. His intentions were to help her. That is to say, the level of hate that Beth has for Jamie far outweighs what he "did" to her. Hell, he likely did everyone a favor by sterilizing her.

Jamie not telling her what was going to happen was a dick move.
The clinic not telling her was criminal.

Beth put herself in that situation first by getting knocked up and second by insisting on going to the Rez for the abortion because she was ashamed. Jamie fricked up, but Beth has never owned up to her mistakes leading up to it, so frick her more.

Ya the clinic performing a hysterectomy on a teenage girl without any type of informed consent or parental involvement gets way overlooked and would absolutely, 1000% never happen in real life.

They made it seem as if Jamie was approving it, and I assume he was a legal adult at the time, but yeah extremely shaky and would never happen without the patient knowing what's going on. Jamie wasn't her legal guardian or anything.

This x10000%
I always thought this incident was a shaky premise to justify Beth's hating Jamie. We are supposed to overlook the role Beth played in getting HERSELF pregnant?
Also, my memory may be bad but it seemed like Beth and Jamie got along fine in the first few seasons, then they turned Beth into the trailer park queen with her T-shirt worthy one liners.

pretty sure in the very first episode jamie asks what she's doing there and she says something like "fixing shite that you fricked up"

Nah, she always hated Jamie.

Which women?
She is a miserable character. Other than loyalty to her father she doesn't have many redeeming qualities.

Jamie made the right decision... Have you seen her with children????

I hate her because she isn't likeable.
Do you really admire how she treats her subordinates like crap? That's just one example.

The first couple of seasons they were at BEST begrudgingly civil towards each other.

Exactly. She is the kind of person that if you were to politely, and constructively correct her for a mistake or an error she'd almost certainly try to gaslight, deflect, and turn it around on you, and belittle you in the nastiest way possible, and then try and hold it against you for the rest of your life. That is literally her character. What at all is there to like about her?
