I will disagree on the intriguing story. I guessed the ending after about 30 min or whenever they introduced the missing patient. saying it was great before it started filming is a retarded statement btw. A film can only be judged by its end product, example: star wars ep. 1. Great cast, Revival of the Saga, George Lucas, big budget, Major letdown...

I guessed the ending of Titanic, therefore it sucked. It's not the what, it's how you get there. If you're only concerned about the finish line, you'll be disappointed in, quite literally, nearly every movie ever made.

Oh, and Star Wars Ep 1 had one major drawback: Lucas' writing, and the fact he hadn't directed a film in two decades. So, yeah, it had questions coming out of the gate.

By end product i meant the film itself. You cannot judge a film from the rumors and filming. Its like saying "well the film was ok, but they did a great job in post production so it was the best movie ever."

Inception but SI was a great film. Inception was an original idea...SI has been done before but again good film.

Nolan fanboys will never back down, but I would take Shutter Island over Inception any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Loved the movie. Scorcese did a great job with it. I'm a big hitchock and twilight zone fan and this movie was an homage to that genre

Shutter island IMO. I've tried to watch inception outside of the theatre a few times and I just can't sit through the whole thing. I usually enjoy long films but now that I know the concept of inception it takes all the enjoyment out of watching it for me

I liked Shutter Island because I had just taken a course on the History of Psychiatry and the movie was dead accurate. To the year (for treatments, medicines, procedures, etc)if I remember correctly.

I agree I've seen Shutter Island 5 or 6 times after seeing it in theaters and I pick up on little things like sheehan struggling to remove his holster that backs up the ending.

Inception I saw it in theaters and loved it but it was over then for me. Tried to watch it again and it couldn't hold my attention after the mystery was gone.

By my count the score is Shutter Island 11 - Inception 17.

A few I couldnt tell what they picked; and one of these...

Probably Inception (altho I haven't seen it yet)

I really enjoyed both. I do think Shutter Island was ignored at all the award shows, which was odd given the director but as usual given the lead actor. To me, it holds up a little better over multiple watches. I love Inception because of the originality (I could care less about the "Nolan stole the idea from a daffy duck comis or whatever bs it was). But over multiple watches it drops off a little. I saw it twice in theatres; and I never ever see movies multile times in the theatre. But the snow dream level, I guess the 4th level, just isnt that great to me. Tom Hardy becomes the dude in the Dr. Pepper 10 commercials, flying around on a snow mobile chunking grenades at people with perfect hits ala 007.

I'll call it a push.

like Michael Bay remade the Matrix for 80% of the movie. Cool to see visually, but not very appealing as a story to me. I honestly did not really care for any of the characters in Inception.

My main problem with Inception was the same problem I had with the Dark Knight. Which was the final act, 45 minute long climax after climax after climax. Hey think we're about to wrap things up, here comes another climax. It was kinda of exhausting and seemed like overkill to me.

Really liked this movie.

This movie is hard to explain for me. My son and his wife saw it and raved about it. We tried watching it at home but my grandson was running around like crazy so I didnt really follow and turned it off after about 30 minutes. Now I basically know its about a dream within a dream within etc etc. The thought of watching it just gives me a fricking headache!

I'll take Inception...Shutter Island was too much of a ripoff of Dr. Caligari for me.

I can watch Inception over and over and pick up on something new each time. Great movie. It really makes you think, you don't get many movies like that anymore. Shutter Island is really good too, but it doesn't make me want to watch it all over again like Inception does.

Shutter Island was great, but I couldn't help but dock it points because I knew from the very beginning what the ending was going to be. I walked into the theater having only seen the trailers and told my friend, "This is what's going to happen," and he said, "No doubt." And it's what happened.
With that said, I have to go with Inception.

Inception by a lot.

Shutter Island was pretty good, but i knew what the twist was halfway thru the movie. And that took some of the drama out for me.

Inception was a great freakin movie.
