Inception by a lot.
Shutter Island was pretty good, but i knew what the twist was halfway thru the movie. And that took some of the drama out for me.
Shutter Island irritated me because it wasn't difficult at all to figure out that it was screwing with the minds of the audience. Suspension of disbelief was gone very early and I really didn't much care what the ending was going to be. There WAS a final twist that I did not see coming which was cool but too little too late.
On the other hand Inception was one of my favorite movies in a while. The multi-layered reality required some thought vs. having my intelligence insulted which is the way I look at Shutter Island.

Guess what tards? Leo was either gonna be a real investigator or a patient all along. 50/50. It's not that hard.
ETA: my vote goes to inception, it remains one of my favorite movies to date. Although, I did thoroughly enjoy shutter island

I love both as well but I'm going with Inception because I think Christopher Nolan did a better job than Scorsese.

"Dude...see more movies."
Oh shut the frick up... We're not talking about the Godfather here. I love Scorsese, but this film is a well-lensed mess. And I can ascertain that I've seen far more movies than you can count.

Inception or Shutter Island?
I like both, but will choose Inception.
Although Shutter Island has Casey Motherfricking Jones in it.

despite the acting core on Shutter Island, I just could not get into the film at all. to me it just didn't have much of a wow factor. I suspected the plot twist in the trailers, and 1/4 way through the film i figured out what was going on - and knowing the ending just made the rest of the film feel more like a "chore" to watch than something to enjoy.
i know im probly more in the minority on my opinion of the film. I generally love just about any film with Kingsley, DiCaprio or honestly anything by Scorcese - but this one was a huge dissapointment....to me anyway.
I honestly have not seen Inception - its on my queue for Netflix, but have a few films ahead of it.

Dude, bump it to the top immediately. It's very good. And I think it will somewhat be overhyped since you still haven't seen it, so it may struggle to meet the "OMG BEST MOVIE EVARRR!!!!1!1!" hype you've assuredly seen about it, but still...it's really, really good.

LOL i trust posters on here in their reviews, but i always go into a film with an open mind and always keep the expectations to a respectible level - its easier that way for me to like a film or not like a film.
ill have to talk to my SO about pushing it up, but she has Lady Snowblood and Battleroyale in queue before it, and i may not be able to get her to cave on bumping them down for inception. either way ill have it soon to watch.

Just go Redbox it and watch it yourself (if she doesn't want to move it up).
ETA: Just make sure you watch it without distractions, as it takes some paying attention to.

This is the reason I typically don't click on shutter island thread. There are so many people that are super awesome because they had the movie figured out in the trailer. Then after you go read some website and figure out what all the give aways are so you can talk about where you figured it out at. So you predicted Leo choosing a labotomy at the end after the whole act worked? No. That was the real twist.

Inception, and it's not close. Not because Shutter Island isn't good, but because I believe Inception is one of the best Hollywood blockbusters ever made.
Totally agree.

I never considered myself awesome at all for figuring out the plot and ending from watching the trailer and a small portion of the film - I have never claimed that nor would I. what I did was offer up my feelings an opinion of the film, and how I felt watching it. as for your assumption that I went out and read other sites for spoilers and then used that to post here about it is, while it is your opinion, is fundementally wrong. for me watching it, it became pretty evident early on that he was a patient and not the police person at all.
I will conceed that his choosing the Labotomy at the end was a twist, it just was not enough of a twist to make the film enjoyable for me.
you can attack my opinion if you'd like, because ultimately your a stranger on an internet forum - and if thats how you get your Jollies, then knock yourslef out - but don't forget to clean up after your done.

I was speaking of that claim in general, not just yourself.
Attack you. Really? This is, like you say, an Internet forum. Didn't know I needed to wear kit gloves when replying to someone. That was a good joke about cleaning up after I leave. Hilarious. No really, I cracked up. Funniest joke I've heard all week.
If you've seen me post around here enough you'd possibly know that I don't bash people, really never have. I guess I just don't need to comment on the reoccurring theme in Shutter Island threads anymore.

its fair enough man - i missread your reply to mine and reacted incorrectly - you have my appologies for that.
the part of my post you quoted is what caused my missunderstanding. and no, you should never wear kids gloves - and fwiw I tend to not let stuff bother me on forums.
so again my appologies for my confusion and ignorance.
