You know, I've watched this film three times now. I love the little things about it.

I love how Hitler thanks his assistant for reminding him about the private waiting to see him. I love the little "hey how's it going" wave Hugo Stiglitz gives to the German sergeant.

I love how Aldo has the rope burn around his neck but it's never explained. I love Mike Myers in it. I love how the Gestapo soldier quickly turns from arse to friendly (while thanking the bartender for bringing him a pen) back to arse again in the bar scene.

I love how it's never explained what happened to the other members of the Basterds. I love the subtitles. I love "I've been chewed out before."

Maybe I love this film a little too much. But dammit. It's a great movie. One of the best I've ever seen.

Anyone who thinks otherwise just can't appreciate the subtle beauty of the film. Yeah, in places it's like a sledgehammer. But mostly it's a very quiet, thoughtful film full of nuance and great story and acting.

Pitt
Tarrantino

Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie overall, but the last 15 minutes or so kinda sucked, IMO. I didn't understand why it was necessary for the girl to die, and I also didn't think it was realistic for that hardcore Nazi guy to suddenly decide to become a traitor, and then actually trust Brad Pitt to walk out into the middle of the woods with him and actually follow through with their plan. Those last few minutes turned a great movie into merely a good movie.

1) Her death may not have been necessary, but it was still a cool moment in the film.
2) Landa as he put it was hardly loyal to the Nazi principles. He was just a damn good detective and good at finding people, so naturally he works for the Nazis. However the war was beginning to turn in the allies favor and Landa knew if the allies won he was as good as dead since he had the nickname of "The Jew Hunter". Now an opportunity arose to where he would be the winner in the end, so he betrayed the Nazis to save his own arse. And Brad Pitt had to follow orders in some respect. He killed the radio guy since he knew the only person they needed was Landa, and decided to give him a just punishment for being a Nazi.

Noticed this to and I would say that the Nazis tried to hang him.

I loved the bar scene, espeically when the Gestapo Major is guessing the character on his forehead. I love how it builds and builds and he asks questions faster and faster, then takes a left turn to something you're not expecting at all. (Don't want to say the line to ruin it for those who haven't seen it.)

And Cocomo, I think Pitt's acting seemed like the worst in the movie, but I think that may have been exactly what they were going for. Just an over-the-top hillbilly sounding commander. I couldn't stop laughing when they were at the movie and he was speaking his Italian after he said he spoke the most in the group.

Also, the two Sam Jackson parts about Hugo Stiglitz and the flammable film were very nice touches.

Obviously, I can't tell how this movie will hold up compared to Tarantino's others, but I think IB could be my favorite along with Pulp Fiction.

I think the problem many people had with the film is that it was marketed as a murderous rampage against the Nazis which it was not.

Some people went in expecting a nazi death gorefest and they were not happy with the rest of the movie.

I can understand this, but I still liked the movie.

that's EXACTLY what the trailer made it out to be.

After seeing the trailer could any reasonable person expect it to not be this.

I enjoyed the movie a lot. Was one of the best of the year, but it was completely different from what I was expecting going into the theater.

Loved this movie. I got chills in the opening scene. When they were playing the Ennio Morricone type music (man with no name trilogy), it had that spaghetti western type feel. The over the top violence was great, had me laughing and appalled the way Tarrentino does. The characters were great. One of the best movies of the year in IMO. (I think i'm gonna go buy the eastwood trilogy after work now).

Pitt was playing up the character as elitist Europeans would view typical American soldiers

I get very suspect of Tarantino movies, because there is always tremendous hype. So i always come away before watching it, with low expectations. But i'm usually quite surprised at the quality. This is up there with some of his best films.

My ranking of Tarantino Movies

1) Reservoir Dogs
2) Inglorious Basterds
3) Pulp Fiction
4) Four Rooms
5) Kill Bill

Tarantino ceases to amaze me!! 10 years in the making...was well worth the wait!!! Brad Pitt played the hell out if Aldo raine...but christoph waltz stole the show!! Haha was the scene with him (hans landa) and shoshanna at the table with the strudels one of the best of the movie?!? Tarantino mixed in all emotions in this scene from shoshannas fear jumping off the screen to cl. Hans landa comedic relief with his obsession for the creme!! Haha overall up there as one of Tarantino's best!!

Agree.

I am one of the few who also believes Pitt should at least get a nomination. I think he nailed the part. I really think it was by far his best role.
