Dexter gives him the creeps so he follows him around and ends up dead. Dexter gives him the creeps because, well, Dexter is a serial killer and Doakes is a homicide detective.

He’s the bad guy because he’s good at his job which is to catch murderers. Ultimate bad guy who’s actually the good guy

It's because Dexter, even though he's a serial killer, is a sympathetic character who was a traumatized child with a messed up life.

So Doakes, while absolutely right, looks like a bully.

That character relationship was one of the greatest, because it constantly challenges you to pick a side.

I actually felt bad for Doakes when he was in the cage, but then when he rages on Dexter in one of those cage scenes, I thought, frick Doakes.

I love the show, but season 2 might be my favorite because of Doakes. He was a great character

Doakes wasn't bad. Dirty Harry archetype/anti-hero. Dexter is evil but root for him bc he is killing seriel killers. Same as Joe in You. Bad person but we sympathize with the character portrayals. If both characters were hideous i.e. Danny Devito it wouldn't be the same.

I felt bad for him. It’s been awhile since I watched it, but wasn’t he the first non murderer that Dexter killed?

I think part of the dynamic too was that Doakes probably would have at least understood what Dexter was doing, if he truly knew. He got frustrated as much as anyone with the limits of law inforcement.

Maybe, he still would want to arrest him though even if he understood. IMO

Andre on Snowfall. Just a good cop trying to protect his community and young daughter from the recent crack epidemic. He doesn’t feel as much as bad guy as Doakes but definitely a good guy antagonist.

On the opposite end of spectrum are truly bad guys that we root for like Tony Soprano and Vic on the Shield

Doakes was frustrated at his perps disappearing also. He wanted em behind bars as much as dexter wanted them on his table

No. That would be Sister Aloysius from Doubt (2008).
