BSG

Re-makes at least as good if not better than original property:

The Departed
Star Trek (2009)
Ocean's trilogy
Friday Night Lights (tv series)
Little Shop of Horrors
The Maltese Falcon
My Fair Lady
The Thin Red Line

Edit: Btw re-make Troy. frick that movie.

Why remake a classic film?

While I agree, I think it would take a huge name director to really pull this off. ROTN is a classic, so if the movie sucked, that'd be terrible for the entire series, IMO.

Because I watched ET a month ago and I thought that the effects were just aweful and could use some improvement. If we are going to ruin my childhood memories might as well be complete.

What would be achieved by re-making this or Ferris Bueller?

Watch Moore BSG and say that.

I cannot comment on it, as I havent watched more than maybe 3 episodes of the new BSG series. I grew up witht he Origional BSG, and that will always have a special place in my heart.

I will conceed that certain franchises could be redone, and redone well - but I stand by my origional statement:
IMO Remakes/Reboots/Re-envisionings are just a hallmark for lack of creativity and imagination.

It was what is was. A cheap Star Wars rip off with Mormans in Space!

I think it has far more to do with being easier to sell an already established brand than an original property. The real lack of creativity and imagination is the sheer number of sequels. At least with a re-make (especially if it is from a different medium) you have to update the material as well as adjust it to fit into a motion picture rather than as a tv show. A sequel (more often than not) is just about remaking the same movie over and over again.

I can agree with that - see the Saw movies and Final Destination flicks

I remember some books from my childhood called The Littles that I think could be made into excellent Pixar movies.

I heard rumors of a remake of "12 Angry Men", the jury deliberation/social commentary black and white pic.

If they remake this classic it will be a travesty, as the original should be classified as untouchable.
