re: Why do you hunt?

Hunting presents the best opportunity to spend time with my brothers and dad.
My pops and brothers went down this weekend and had a hard time finding live bait.
They said the Sanddollar was full of oil clean up workers and that Bridgeside is where to go to avoid them.
They caught limits on Saturday and Sunday at the rocks on the West side of the island. On Gulp scrimps and glow cocahoes.

I feel very secure in my home with a 9mm and .30 special loaded with hollow-points...and my alarm...and my dogs.
T2 was the first, but I remember Braveheart more vividly because I saw it at Broadmoor theatre and the projector burned up right when he was led out in the cart in the final scene.
We have a ton of them in in Henry. The Boston Canal is our southward boundary, and those damn things swarm all season.
The green chicken feet freak me out.
Also, they are all over the canals in Amsterdam. I saw some last summer and ordered duck that night for dinner. MMMM-Munchies.

Pops has always called them Mexican Squeelers. Every year we get a few flights that refuse to leave our property, no matter how many of them we drop the rest just circle around and look at the dead ones. Don't think they're the smartest duck out there.

Fishing camp in Grand Isle is 3 hours.
Duck lease in Henry is an hour and a half.

I'm a new and RayFinkle. Who MAY should have checked to see if there was another RF out there...oh well.
Everyone knows Gingers —people with red hair, freckles, and pale skin—are disgusting, inhuman, and inherently dumb, have no souls, are very short, and are unable to survive in sunlight.
This about sums up Paul Scholes, IMO.

Touche. Not exactly camp fare though no?
Not so much creepy as down right terrifying:
My brother, dad and some of my dad's friends wen to Alaska in 2004 for an 8 day float trip.
My Brother and I were rowed across the river one evening after we'd made camp to fish a cut-out pool that was chock full of sockeye salmon.
WE start to catch fish and the guide rowed back across to ferry other guys over.
A lanky young grizzly trots onto the sandbar about 200 yards upstream of where my brother and I were fishing.
Damn thing takes off at a dead sprint right towards us, then about 100 yards away dives into the pool, scoops up a salmon and starts to go to town. I don't think he even knew we were there. I had to change my long johns.

Nothing better than leftover gumbo (with duck hearts mind you) over rice with biscuits in the morning after bagging a limit of ducks. NOTHING.

Favorite shotgun has to be My Browning Gold Trigger my pops gave me for my 21 birthday.
Handgun would be my Sig P226 9mm with Hogue King Wood grips.
I also have a Taurus CIA (hammerless) .38 special for my wife, and she's happy knowing all she has to do is pick it up and squeeze til it clicks.
I'd post pics but I'm a noob and can't work the interweb.

I hunt 220 acres Henry, just outside Abbeville, and the cost for the year is around 10K, defrayed between 5 paying members.

I've shot two in my life, the first was a Springfield Armory, and it was an absolute nail driver. I was shooting a .40 Glock at the time, and my groupings with the 1911 were like night and day to my glock groupings.
Last summer I had the privilege to shoot a 1911 manufactured and assembled by the Singer sewing machine company during WWII. It belonged to my great uncle and was his sidearm throughout his tour in the pacific theater. I was told it had blood on it.
Fact of the matter was, that 60+ year old pistol fired true, and I produced another tight grouping.
That's what piqued my interest in them.

Two summers ago I went on an offshore trip with my dad, brother and good friend. We ended up catching a mess of tuna and I fought and landed a 600lb+ blue marlin on a tuna rig. I say landed, the deck hand put his hand on the leader right when he spit the hook. Captain said that counts.
That same trip we saw what we thought was a log floating near a rip, and then the log shot out a jet of water. Turned out to be a sperm whale and it rolled over on its side to look at us as we circled it. You could see the circular scars on its head from diving and eating squid.
Was the trip of a life time and I was glad to share it with my dad and brother.

1911 question
Posted by RayFinkle on 8/3/10 at 2:48 pm
What's everyone's opinion on the different manufacturers who produce 1911s?
I'm partial to my Sig P226, and I'd like to shoot the Sig 1911, are there any other makers I should be looking at?
And don't say Les Bauer or Wilson's as I'm not looking to drop that kind of change.

Going to Pinetta's for dinner tonight, any menu suggestions?

Istanbul
I have some Armenian friends (don't let them hear you call them Turkish), and they rave about Istanbul. For me, the two countries I regretted missing most during my time in Europe were Germany and Scotland. I had some friends go play St. Andrews and then another group took a train trip across Germany, and both groups raved about their experience. The Black Forest region of Germany was particularly fun from what I recall.
Also, google European outdoor concerts and festivals. We didn't realize it when we left, but you can almost plan your excursions around concerts and events, as they are ALWAYS going on.
We missed seeing Kings of Leon ins Manchester by a day...bummed about that one.
By pure chance we were in Amsterdam during Dam Fest, which is this outdoor music festival right in Dam Square, and it was frigging awesome.
I spent 6 weeks in London last summer, at London City college in Islington. Classes ended at noon everyday and we never had class on Friday and only had to go on Thursday 3 times.
It was the best 6 weeks of my life.
Where ever you decide to go, you MUST go to Interlaken, Switzerland, stay at Balmers hostel and go canyoning Chli Schlere. Here's the link.
Canyoning Chli Schlere
We spent time in Italy, Switzerland, Greece, France, and Amsterdam.
The segway tours in Rome are a must, and you can by pass Paris if you don't mind missing the tower and the louvre, the people there suck.
Amsterdam is Amsterdam, basically Bourbon on acid.
If you go to Greece only spend one day in Athens and then go to one of the islands. Mykonos and Santorini are the two most popular, with the latter being more relaxed and Mykonos being the party place.
I can give you TONS of information on all of the above places, as well as the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

England: Spent some time in Europe last summer, 6 weeks in London. During my stay I learned that Londoners suck, therefore I chose to support a team they all hate, Liverpool. Plus Liverpool is known for having the loudest fans, and that carries weight too.
Spain: Atletico Madrid, they play a nonstop attacking style of football, and its easy to root for an underdog team with 1/3 the $$ of their hometown rivals, yet still manages to get results over Real.
Germany: Call me a bandwagon fair weather fan, but watch Ribery, Robben, Klose, Lahm, Muller, Gomez and Schweinsteiger play, and see if you aren't entertained. (Bayern Munich)
Italy: Roma
MLS: Don't care

re: Is there a remake that Hollywood SHOULD MAKE?

I heard rumors of a remake of "12 Angry Men", the jury deliberation/social commentary black and white pic.
If they remake this classic it will be a travesty, as the original should be classified as untouchable.

I've been struggling with what to do with him in my keeper league as well. Between his K holdout, his suspension, and the emergence of Malcolm Floyd, he's looking more and more like cutbait. And the Chargers might not trade him to spite him for whining and refusing to accept their tender, as he'll be a free agent next year anyway. Plus, the odds of him screwing up between now and when he could actually play again are pretty good. And he won't have practiced since they lost in the playoffs....
