Why does everyone hate 5? Especially compared to absolute shite like 8?
Is this just because they were setting up Tommy taking the mangle and relying less on magic?
Or because it doesn't go full on camp like the succeeding movies? It's not part of the joke the franchise became?

Because 5 was trash, imo!
8 was Manhattan. It's out of place, but it's much better than 5, 9, and 10.

1-4 don't rely on magic. That began with 6. In 1-4, he's just a boy/man who is incredibly troubled and insanely strong.

Watch that film again, especially the candy bar scene. Tell me it's not camp....
Honestly, it just doesn't fit in. It was a huge mistake, in my opinion. No Jason--after Jason became the big draw! Timmy possibly become the killer is just as stupid as that Corey idiot being the villan in Halloween Ends.

1-3 are just magic, but the real fun starts in 6,8, and 10 baby! Friday the 13th part 3 is really damn good though!

Maybe if it actually took place in New York for more than just a few scenes sure I know it’s not their fault the budget for the movies was never great and it took a hit during part VIII but still I always found it boring. I still value 4 and 6 as the top two but the remake is a close third due to survival Jason just being incredibly brutal that opening scene alone might be my favorite in the entire franchise
