You really need to stop watching and start over from the beginning or where you last left off. You are doing yourself an extreme disservice by picking up from Season 6 when you have absolutely no idea what is going on. LOST isn't going anywhere and will be here once you've caught up.

i caught up last week...started from the 1st episode about 2 months ago and watched like 3-4 a day from work and at home (bow to netflix)
really missing 1 episode can throw you off

Every episode in the series has had some relevance on another, with the possible exception of "Stranger in a Strange Land". LOST has subtle reminders on what happened in previous episodes in every single episode, and many of them happened 4-5 seasons ago. This is undebatable that it will happen since it is happening right now. You of course can't pick up on them since you haven't watched them.

I used to be a Jack fan but his propensity for complete and utter failure has led me to dislike him.

No that is not Richard. Richard is not the protector of the Island, and that is one of the main points of this season on who will be the next protector. You don't even have a remote grasp on what this season is even about and you're trying to talk down to us?
