Again, if the split starts in 1977 then everything before that still happened.
but the events in 1977 are dependent on the losties plane crashing, and time traveling, etc. It creates a paradox if you assume that theory which is one of the reasons I don't think it's true.

this is true.

I'm confident the writers will wrap it up much neater than I, but I'm sticking to this story unless they expound more on the possibility brought up in the Ben/Roger scene.
On a side note, I just saw Ken Leung (Miles) on an episode of The Sopranos. I kept waiting for his head to start twitching.

the evidence points against that theory so far IMO, but I could be wrong. we'll see.

this might have been covered before, but if Jacob touched Jack Shepard just a few years ago at the hospital, why does Jack have a 14 year old kid in the alt-timeline?
So someone who was on the island between ~1990-1994 had a child with Jack? What do the Island blowing up and Jacob touching Jack in ~2000 have to do with the creation of David Shepard?

Jacob's touched alot of people since 1977. Not touching one of them could set off a chain reaction that leads to other changes in peoples lives everywhere. i.e. the butterfly effect.

You are incorporating other shows/movies time travel rules into your thinking, and you can't do that. These are LOST rules, not Primer, Back to the Future, or Terminator rules.

would you like to elaborate on these LOST rules? Or are you just making a general statement that's irrelevant and based on nothing?

ok...so i want theorys. all of this back and forth shite is making my head spin. what do YOU think the end result will be?

Jacob and MIB realize the whole game was kind of childish and decide to kiss and make up. Everyone lives happily ever after.

An Evangeline Lilly sex scene?

By the way, when the periscope popped up out of the water, it almost looked like a joke. I halfway expected it to be the beginning of a grey poupon commercial or something. It was so close to the shore that it just didn't look real. I was getting ready to hit fast forward on the dvr when they panned down inside and I saw Widmore.
Not sure why I mentioned this, but it was just kind of strange.

I'm beggining to believe that Jacob actually IS the good guy after all.

Seriously though, I think we're about to see some more time travel. I think they go back to sometime before 1977 and actually create the split between timelines.
As a longshot, I believe Faraday is going to reappear in the island timeline and be orchestrating many of the events. Dude is smart, and his mum told Penny that Desmond getting shot was Faraday's fault. I have yet to see how that was his fault.

Whatever Happened, Happened is the main time travel rule in LOST, which means Sayid still shot Ben and Jack and Juliet set of Jughead.

Is it really a "game" though that didn't have to play? I mean MIB wants out and Jacob got killed over it...and is still trying hard to make sure good happens. This is bigger than just a "game".
The most obvious ending as others have said is Jack and Sawyer on the beach in their new roles as Jacob and MIB having the "progress conversation". But I think "it only ends once" and the Losties break the cycle. Sawyer bucks MIB at the last second, joins Jack, and MIB is trapped on the Island forever...without a way of ever bringing anyone back to the Island.

I definitely think we are about to see more time travel. Hurley practically told the audience this when he commented on Adam and Eve when while at the cave on their way to the Lighthouse. Paraphrasing: "what if we went back in time again and Adam and Eve are two of us".

Going back to the time of the split. I don't think it has to be 1977 because of the bomb.
They were jumping through time for awhile, interacting with the island and the Others. In the 50s Farraday told them to bury the bomb that was leaking radiation. Without the plane crash, the Losties never travel back to 1950s. The bomb could have caused something that leads to the split. Probably not the cause of the split, but an example that their impact goes back farther than 1977.
Or it could be something else they impacted while time travelling. Or as Decatur said, more time travel is coming. I tend to believe that part is over, but who knows.
