upon the rewatch, caught something interesting...
Dr. Linus:
".....faced his greatest test. Because exile wasn't the worst of his fate, what was truly devastating to him was the loss of his power. Sure they allowed him to keep the title of emperor, but without any power, it was meaningless, he might have just as well been dead."
I personally think this is some foreshadowing. About whom, I'm not sure, but it seems like this could be referring to MIB.

I'm not sure if that is sarcasm... but I would assume that was about Ben himself. He sacrificed his own daughter to maintain his power on the island...
I think he even mentioned this in his apology to Ilana

see, that was my first reaction as well, but "exiled to an island" - I can't say why for sure, but I just got this distinct impression this was about either Jacob or MIB.
....and "stripped of power" - (if we assume) that Jacob & MIB are demi-gods, just because they seem powerful to mortal man, from their perspective, they could be virtually powerless.
I dont know where I'm really going with all this, but I was just brainstorming, just get the distinct feeling this is not about Ben

what do YOU think the end result will be?
end result: your guess is as good as mine. I assume that jacob will "win" (whatever that means) and it'll have a happy ending, but I have no clue really
Flash sideways: It's not real. It's a hypothetical of what life would be like for the losties if Jacob had no interaction with them. I think by the end of the show Jacob will give the Losties the opportunity to live this alternate timeline. I base this on a hunch. No evidence supports this theory
I don't think the flash sideways was a result of the bomb detonation
1. If detonating the bomb caused flight 815 simply not to crash, then that doesn't explain why shannon isn't on the plane, and why desmond is on the plane.
2. I agree with the statement "whatever happened, happened." The Losties didn't change anything with Juliet hitting the bomb. This is why Eloise Hawking (the old one) knew that she was going to kill Daniel when she persuaded him back to the island with Whidmore. She knew this because she remembers killing him...because it had already happened
3. I'm not even convinced the bomb detonated. The hatch was still built, and the flash of light and fastforward through time could have been caused by jacob's death.
4. The scene with Ben and his father this last episode doesn't make since if the flash sideways was caused by the bomb detonation and split from there.
As far as the enhanced episodes go, i saw where someone posted that they aren't made by the writers of Lost.
-I had a problem with one pop-up that stated that "the flash sideways is what life would be like if the plane hadn't crashed on the island"; obviously there's more to it since desmond is on the plane and shannon isn't

i thought it was interesting that the only thing he wrote on the board was "elba;" which is also an anagram for abel, and could be referencing jacob and mib as cain and abel trapped on the island. Just a thought. It could be another intended loose association with a biblical reference or just me overthinking the show and finding something the writers don't even know about.

I don't know shite about Egyptian mythology, but I wonder if there is a "prince" who was banished?

i dunno. but even if the anagram was intentional or if the napolean story has a likeness to egyptian reference, it'll be like all the other biblical and egyptian associations: they're interesting, but it's not going to help you predict what's going to happen next

I rewatched last night....still thinking this was an analogy to Ben, but I see where you're getting MiB with the "exile" reference. I thought of "exile" as Ben's time away from the Island, so it doesn't fit exactly, but the rest of the Elba Napoleon story fit pretty spot on with what Ben told Ilana later on in the episode.
Also, don't think this has been mentioned in this thread but Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert) was interviewed recently and stated that the ninth and fifteenth episodes of this season will be the episodes that answer almost all the remaining mysteries of the series. The 9th episode is of course the Alpert-centric episode that airs in two weeks. The 15th episode is rumored to be Jacob-MiB centric I believe.....which makes sense as far as answering questions goes.
Here is the link to the interview....but beware of spoilers.... Carbonell interview

from what I understand, Shannon not being on the plane is purely a result of Maggie Grace not wanting to come back on the show or scheduling conflict or something of that nature.
as for desmond

Nothing compares to the shite-tastic CGI submarine from the end of last season. Jesus Christ that was horrible.

She was filming a film at the time of LA X.
