thanks. just read it all. I think I know who Richard is at this point.

I believe that Jacob and MIB were already on the island before the Black Rock arrived in the mid-to-late 1800s (I assume that is the vessel we see off the shore of the island at the beginning of the Season 5 finale). I do believe that the Black Rock was/is a delivery vessel in the same way as Oceanic Flight 815 and Ajira Flight 316...all were used to bring certain people to the island. Kate was the prisoner on 815...Sayid was the prisoner on 316...Richard was/will be the prisoner on the Black Rock.
I agree except:

it's too easy, nothing fits that simply into the storyline.

There must have been a dead person on the black rock too then, huh?
Most likely...I think we will see the same character types on the Black Rock.
I think the Black Rock was/will be very important to the resolution of the story. I expect we will see it again in the Richard-centric episode...it will be epic.

You have a point...but they can't keep things too complex for too much longer. They can't keep introducing new shite.
I've posted before that I think time travel will factor in with the Black Rock. I think Hurley basically give this away when he was talking to Jack at the cave about Adam and Eve. Without making too many wild assumptions (I've explained them all before), I posit that at least two Losties go back and time and use the Black Rock to get back onto the island...they wind up being Adam and Eve. I am probably wrong but I feel good about the theory for now.

I really doubt that this is the case.

And why do you doubt that? All signs are pointing to that right now.

I still think richard was the first mate or some kind of similar support position. First because seemingly has the same role on the island and second because it seems unlikely to me that a prisoner on the black rock would have a small model of it and toy with it fondly.

I believe in teh end we will learn Jacob was actually the bad guy and smoke monster was actually good all along. the ultimate mind blow.

I predict that the opening scene of the Richard-centric episode will take place on the Black Rock and you will see Richard appear right before the "LOST" flashes on the screen for the OH shite moment.

So good guys destroy villages and bad guys try to protect them in your view?

Maybe at first he held a support position then was imprisoned after a mutiny or pirate boarding. Just speculating.

well I don't think you can trust what you see on this show. there are no real rules of reality that the writers have to play within. they can do whatever they want. Time travel? assuming tjhe form of dead people? smoke monsters? all bets are off at that point.

I think Richard came to the island in the same fashion as Dogen, by Jacob to do a "job". My guess is he captained the ship.

I understand where you are coming from but at some point we are going to see some of the answers were very obvious...like when Hurley opined that Adam and Eve could be one of them (the audience has pretty much known this for years).
Are you just doubting that Richard wasn't the prisoner or that he never came to the island on the Black Rock?

Perhaps my hopes are getting in the way, but I can see the writers really blindsiding the viewers in Richard's episode.
That episode is supposed to be the best one of the season and I don't see it being the best if follows what everyone is thinking.

I hear ya.
I think that episode will be epic either way though.

Should I start an "Ab Aeterno"(sp?) thread? Only two weeks away
