For this show to succeed, at some point the story must simplify itself.
yeah, because it's failed miserably up until this point with all these mysteries
I wonder if they've even had an audience for the last 5 years

I mean succeed in terms of storytelling, not money and viewers.
Don't take my post as bad mouthing the show, I enjoy it, just a statement about the eventuality f its closure. For the entire set up to work, I think the show has to end in a very simple manner.

I disagree
I think most of us dont care how convoluted the answers are, as long as they answer the questions
when it's all said and done, the complaints (and there will be many) wont be "that was dumb" or "that didnt make any sense"
but rather
"How in the holy frick did they just end this and not answer ___________?!?!?!?!?!!?"
and everyone will have a different fill in the blank

We should take a poll. Personally, the more convoluted it gets, the more unsatisfying it becomes.

And this only happens with a complex, over-thought ending.
I admit, I have had a love-hate relationship with show (mostly because of my own personal trait of being very critical), but I enjoy it. Originally I thought that the writers have had no idea where they were going. Somewhere in the crap that was Season 3, I thought that they were overcompensating for the popularity and began selling out to complexity for complexity's sake.
I think they settled in by the end of Season 4, and I really think, the pitch went like this:
"JJ, what is this show supposed to be about?"
"A plane crash strands people on an island in the pacific."
"Ok, so what's the point?"
"The island is really____________________."
That's it. It seems (or I hope) that they had a very clear beginning (the plane crash), and a very clear end (yet to be determined). Nothing more. How we got to the point was, *gasp*, of less importance.

ABC.com is by far the worst. They are the worst theorists alive on there, and the only time decent ones show up is if they are trying to get on the podcast. It is also the only forum that have actual shippers on it, which is just terrible. The love triangle better be over for good, since it would be just down right insulting to Juliet's memory if Sawyer hooked up with Kate. I'm fine with Kate and Jack being a couple, but Kate and Sawyer should be done for good.

Sorry that I didn't get in this thread sooner. didnt get to watch the episode until tonight.
As for the love triangle, I am sick of it. By now I just hate Kate. That would be a huge lapse in judgement to have sawyer love struck by kate within one day of Juliet's death.
I didn't get a chance to read the thread, but I will just summarize what I got from the episode and you guys can point out if it's already been said (which is most likely the case). So, Jacob's nemesis has taken on the form of Locke. Is anyone else of the opinion that Sayid coming back could actually be Jacob doing the same that his nemesis did? That explains why Jacob appeared to hugo and told him to go to the temple. It also fits with the templars (for lack of a better term) basically drowning Sayid. It would definitely fit the duality theme as well.
Another thing which my brother mentioned is that Locke could come back in Sayid's body which fits with Sayid's confusion upon resuscitation. I think it would be pretty hokey, but more ridiculous things have happened in lost.
It's really good to see Ben get manipulated for once. Goes to show you that Ben doesn't know shite about the island. The question now is how will Ben respond to this new role.
As for the alternate universe story, I think that was a great idea. It really brings fans of the early seasons back into the fold by refreshing what you liked about each character to begin with. Tons of possibilities as far as character development. Also a good chance to bring themes (numbers, duality, etc) back to the forefront. Besides the characters, looking for little scraps was one of the best parts of watching and rewatching.

never thought about this...i can see this happening especially if MIB continues to take the form of locke throughout the season

are all living characters that were on the 60s island accounted for in wed. episode?

It could be Desmond. Recall how he disappeared off the plane around the same time Sayid was drowned. This could coincide with Charlie being "saved" and the alternate universe having to course correct with the previous one.

interesting theory. sayid did look really freaked out like desmond did during the constant

Watched both new episodes and I think the writers are trying to keep up with the fan speculation, in fact I think the confusion they randomly threw into the show and the fan speculation has shaped the direction more than the writers.

sorry if mentioned:
Mib is the "good guy". Jacob brought multiple Murderers, alcoholic, cheaters, drug addict, whores, etc, etc, etc.to the island and uses them to torture MIB.... To be the leader of the others you have to kill your father: Ben killed Dad, Locke killed dad.(richard said he "had to go" twice).MIB says to Jacobs after asking why here keeps "bringing them here" "They come, fight, they destroy, they corrupt — it always ends the same".....MIB is just trying to keep Jacob from torturing everybody.....he doesn't want any "visitors"
Also, Julliet's "it worked" was preceded by her having a converstaion with Sawyer in an Alternate reality "let's grab coffee" (like Charlotte and chocolate), the Remaining people were "exposed to heavy doses of Radiation" and are Mentally leaping between the timelines. They are having difficulty with fully changing over to the new timeline. And are currently in a state of dual conscience where something seems familiar with "strangers" in new reality.
Island underwater then rising to the top, would explain Blackrock being in the middle of the island....just not how or why island "rises and falls"
last: Christian Shepard's Coffin got teleported off plane during turbulance, like the oceanic 6 from Flight 316 back to 1970 before it crashed. Not sure why, Christian's Body/coffin would be needed if Island underwater tho
FYI "when some goes out of their way to tell you they are a good guy....."

worst theory i've seen so far... congrats. having difficulty fully changing over to the new timeline??? hell no, they are in the correct timeline. the only way the landing in LAX happens is if they do things correctly in the 2007(?) timeline

Anyway, one thing i'm almost positive is is that the temple is the gateway to MiB's "home". which would explain their panic when they found out jacob was dead, and them not panicking when MiB was free to roam the island and jacob was alive

kinda-sorta-barely agree with this- she shifted realities just for a second........or thefact that she fell 20' down a hole, detonated a nuclear bomb, and had 2 tons of raw steel crushing her causing her to lose massive amounts of blood made her loopy
could go either way with this one

.just not how or why island "rises and falls"
maybe it's not the island, but the water that goes up & down

Christian Shepard's Coffin
obviously, it's massively significant that his coffin has gone missing. But, what's the real line here? Christian's coffin was empty on the island. Is it important that Jack lost his father's body? or is it important that Christian's body never makes it back to LA?

no way. don't think the writers would include a nonsequitor as random as 'let's get coffee' and have it mean nothing, especially after charlotte's no chocolate before dinner remark right before she died. def. think it will come back.
