I think its safe to assume that Ben is telling the truth here since he personally went to be judged and we saw him judged. The Monster may have let him go for more selfish reasons than righteous ones since Ben is horrible human being, but he still needed Ben.

He refused to repent for his sins and said he had no remorse over the sins he has committed. I do think if he repented that the Monster would have spared him.
There's that, plus didn't the actor playing Eko get in trouble with a DUI.

The guy had Island fever and wanted to leave. I don't think the DUI lead to him being dismissed, which almost certainly lead to Libby being fired. Plus most of the cast, particularly Terry O'Quinn (who plays Locke), hated the guy who played Eko. I bet Terry is much happier now that the guy he has most of his scenes with is actually a good friend of his.

The only reason I'm saying this is because we saw it personally. Rule of Thumb when dealing with Ben is don't believe anything he says that you haven't seen personally in the show (ex: Ben claiming born on the Island, but his flashbacks prove otherwise).

Well the Monster was willing to give Eko a chance if he repented and was remorseful, but Eko didn't, so he killed him. I do think that Ben was remorseful over some of the acts he has committed , which may have allowed the Monster to spare Ben and still go through with his plan, that is of course if my theory is correct.

I'm not sure, since after 20 minutes of searching I haven't been able to find one. I just know that he left the show with a bitter relationship with many of the cast mates and the shows producers. He is still said to be friends with Harold Perrinau and Dominic though. He just hated Hawaii once the Island lost its luster for him, and he lost both of his parents while filming LOST.
