Helen Hunt's head and her becoming incapable of playing a likeable character.
This is so true.
We all thought, this is marriage?
(And my sister who loved the show was miserable and got divorced after two years.) That was the audience. Misery loves company. It was miserable married couples.
The show scared the shite out of college age kids. This is your miserable future.
And Paul Reiser ushered in the era of a somewhat cuckold character that dominated in the 90's.

Mad About You was a Tuesday night sitcom most of its life I think, not always Thursday. NBC was so f-ing stacked then it was ridiculous.
The lineup I remember wqs Mad About You, Frasier, and Newsradio were all Tuesday and Friends, Seinfeld the Jonathon Silverman Show were all Thursday.
By the way, Mad About You was a HUGE hit pre-Friends.
Damn I miss being a kid and just leaving it on NBC Channel 6 all night. Hell I even got Saved By The Bell: The College Years on Some Tuesdays.

Maybe they moved it in the later years but it was the lead in to Cheers for a long time. That's the only reason I ever watched it. Although bitch or not young HH was fire.

quote:Um, no.
That's exactly the thing. It was a bland, couples sitcom, sort of the Grey's Anatomy of its day
quote:Not sure what this could even possibly mean. The Simpsons has made fun of virtually every show ever.
Even the Simpsons made fun of it.

Wings isn't underrated. Everybody loves Wings.

The episode where Paul took viagra and every woman he saw looked at his crotch and slapped him was gold.

It's properly rated as okay, kinda cute but nothing great.

Wings produced one of the greatest TV characters and TV actors of all-time.

Don't they spoilers...........................................
Divorce in the finale'? She kisses her boss, he flirts with a hot woman. I guess later they cheat and split? Frustrating for the audience I believe who went to watch a "happy couple".

Not really.
I think the target audience was miserable newlyweeds so they could commiserate.
I mean, they always fought on the show about stupid little stuff.
And in the midst of the show, Paul Reiser made a movie about the same themes...Bye Bye Love.
90's were weird...a lot of TV shows and movies with don't get married messages while 80's TV were, hey, families are what life is about.
And I don't think Mad About You had kids ever...hell, even Murphy Brown had a kid...or found a kid, I don't know.

Best thing about Mad About You
And it encapsulates the entire series and how it pales in comparison to great 90's shows.

Is your position that this is a rare thing for the Simpsons to do? If anything, it's hard to think of any successful show that the Simpsons DIDN'T skewer.

They didn't portray it in a very flattering way. It was a comment on how bland it was.
But keep knighting for Mad About You. Fight the good fight, brother.

I loved the show. Until the baby. The baby was its jump the shark plot point.
"Mothers Always Bring Extra Love"... What kind of schlocky shite is that?

I liked it at the beginning but they took it in a more serious direction which I didn't like. Plus the sitcom death knell, they added a baby. Death knell part II, they named her Mabel.
