It's either that or the levels of vampire blood that she was taking were leveled out because she stopped drinking it and the effects stopped working
It's this. Someone asked Flanagan if the ending meant the vampire died. He said no, it was just meant to show that the affects of the blood wear off over time.

I felt like the season was two different shows. The first 4 episodes had the classic Hill House background / jump scares and haunted visions. Then in the last 3 episodes essentially all of that was gone. The girl haunting Riley never played a major part and they stopped referencing it. I don't know how I feel about it. I really like the first few episodes but just felt like it kind of nosedived. I agree with another person who said it was far below Hill House but maybe a little better than Bly Manor.

Not reading this thread as I still have one episode left, but I just finished the 6th and am about to head to bed. I'm gonna have nightmares.

I think that it’s implied that idea of vampires doesn’t exist in this world, since no one mentions it. You have a being with wings that seems to be doing miraculous things, so in that world your only assumption would be angel.

Not with the 'angels' appearance. Def evil! The priest/followers really needed a savior.

Yeah, this isn't Scream where there are characters who know how a horror movie is supposed to go. No Van Helsing shows up knowing all about vampires. So how would normal people see this miracle?
It was a good premise, and pretty production. Show seemed to slow down in the second half with speeches where action should be happening - LOL at the Sheriff's NYPD sob story - and the ending somehow felt anti-climactic even.
I assumed the point of the little girl not feeling her legs was to establish that the head vampire/angel was dead. If Flanagan says otherwise, then that was a mind-numbing way to end it. She could have just looked at the camera and said "THheeee End!"

Have your read biblical description of angels? They are completely terrifying

Also wish Bevs death would have been worse, frick that bitch
I thought her death was fantastic personally. She spent her whole life acting like she was better than everyone and in her final minutes, as someone very religious, she was still scared to die and tried to bury her head in the sand. The rest of the religious town folk were okay with their judgement day coming. I took it as a realization and admittance to herself that despite her faith, deep down she knows she isn’t better than anyone else and on the contrary, perhaps she is worse.
And it seems I’m in the minority but I enjoyed the ending. I thought the monologue by the pregnant girl (forget her name) was great. To me it had a good message - life is fleeting. We spend so much time trying to find the meaning in life and to everything but we don’t spend enough time actually living and enjoying these moments that are but a speck of dust in the lifespan of the universe.

Also I don’t think the show is anti religious as some on here have stated.
I’m atheist, but my takeaway was that religion in itself is not inherently good or bad. There’s a specific scene in the AA meeting where the priest mentions that alcohol is not good or bad, it’s how it is used by individuals that makes it a good or bad thing. I think that’s a metaphor for religion.
We also see this in practice with the characters. The priest and Bev blindly following religion and twisting religious teachings to justify a meaning to everything they do is dangerous. Bev even uses religion for power over the community for selfish purposes.
On the other hand, religion is used by other townspeople in a very healthy and positive way to overcome hardships and continue living their life.

What a bait and switch this show ended up being. Jamison carried this show so hard idk how he didn’t break his back.

Meant Hamish (the priest) but auto correct thought I wanted Jamison

Ahh- yes, I agree.
That guy has a great voice- I found it very calming. I could go to sleep listening to it

I thought the same until Dr. Sarah started talking about how that one blood condition was the basis of “those myths” and then went down a list of vampiric conditions.
I think the lack of outright vampire references was a tool for story telling.

What are we to make of the fetus vanishing? Did they ever explain that? Might have nodded out on that part.

The blood reverts people back to their peak physical condition. Pregnant is definitely not that

Just wrapped this up last night and I'm in the same boat as a bunch of you guys. Feels like this was two separate miniseries in the same show. I really didn't feel like any of the characters other than Father Paul and Bev had any type of impact on the show.
Riley, Erin, the Sherriff, Leeza, etc. all just seemed like empty caricatures who filled in the background for what was basically Father Paul's series long monologue. Feel like I'll give Flanagan the benefit of the doubt in that if he wanted to make a show with serious religious commentary, positive or negative, it would have been much more flushed out from that angle. The whole thing just seemed a bit hollow to me but I finished mainly for the performance of Linklater in the first 4-5 episodes.

I have one episode left and I somehow got my dad watching it as well, so we are now watching the episodes together and we have to get together to watch the episodes....Its killing me.
I absolutely love the show. On one hand, its a fricking vampire and it takes all the horror out of the show, and nothing that happens in the last episode can change that, but......and its a huge but, i absolutely love everything else about the show. The monologues and the one shots engrossing the viewer in the show. The acting from Friday Night Lights Dude to the priest to Beverly Keane to the random fisherman, its all exceptional. The story is just something that I have personally not seen before with the history of vampires and Christianity and the depths its willing to take the story. I cant wait for the last episode.

I agree with most here saying the series took a dive at the end.
Spoilers......................
So many questions, plot holes and stupid decisions in the last episode:
-Why could the priest go seemingly months in the sunlight long after he had been transformed by the "angel" in the cave in the holy land?
-Why did he need to bring Nosferatu with him in a trunk to save the old lady? If he was a vamp, couldn't he do it himself?
-Why didn't the humans just wait until daylight and burn the building down with them all inside? and why were they dousing it with gas right in front of them lol.
-Why couldn't they find a piece of tin, some wood, a coat, the shade of a tree, dig a hole, etc. to hide from direct sunlight. Hard to believe that every single piece of material was on fire (and it was already shown that the fire would not kill them...they would just heal... so they could have dismantled some building materials)
-what was with the rat poison during the last communion? How were they dying and waking up without being bit?
-how could they sing so well? they sounded better than the Mormon Tabernacle Choir lol

Spoilers:
Its good entertainment. Vampire Catholics. Being Catholic makes me think my Priest wouldn't approve and I need to not watch... but I'm at Ep7!
I didn't know the Vampire Catholic angle until Ep6 so I'll ask for forgiveness.
