I actually liked that movie a lot. Great quotes and when I discovered touching myself to Lindsey Lohan.

Are you retarded? It’s a fine comedy, but there are like 20 comedies coming to my mind that are more quotable in the past 20 years. Some movies popping up in my head:
The Big Lebowski
Dumb and Dumber
Anchorman
Superbad
Hot Fuzz
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
The Lord of the Rings
Step Brothers
Office Space
Austin Powers
Borat
Shrek
The Dark Knight
Office Space
Zoolander
Jerry McGuire
Super Troopers
300
The Matrix
In Bruges

I've never heard any body quote these in casual conversation that wasn't based around talking abt happy Gilmore. Have you only seen like 6 movies?
The only one I semi regularly hear is “You eat pieces of shite for breakfast.” Anchorman tends to have be used in very flexible and multiple ways. Same with Dumb and Dumber. I can’t say how you can possibly see in the past 2 decades that these two movies are less quoted that Happy Gilmore. Seriously, how often could I say “it’s all in the hips” compared to “Boy, that escalated quickly” or “We landed on the Moon!”?

I’m not denying that other movies were made over this time period. I’m certain some were.
But come on, Scott Pilgrim vs the World more quotable than Happy Gilmore?
Good call on Dumb and Dumber, I’ll give you that. The original discussion was in the last 20 years which Happy Gilmore and Dumb and Dumber both maximize that time period.
Anchorman while a great movie and very quotable wasn’t until 2004.

Absolutely. I’d argue it may be the most quotable comedy of the decade so far... actually looking through it, it is my only comedy of the decade, so I am arguing that:
“You made me swallow my gum. That’s going to be in my digestive tract for seven years!”
“When I'm around you, I kind of feel like I'm on drugs. Not that I do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case I do them all the time. All of them.”
“What do you play?”
“Wow, ummm... Zelda... Tetris... that's kind of a big question.”
“Hey Jimmy do they rock or suck?”
“They have not started playing yet...”
“That was a test Jimmy, and you passed.”
“I have to go pee due to boredom.”
“Did you really see a future with this girl?”
“Like... with jet-packs?”
“Your BF's about to get F-ed in the B!”
“Why can't we have our own secret shows?”
“All of our shows are secret shows.”
“You are incorrigible.”
“I don't know the meaning of the word.”
He really doesn't.
“He punched the highlights out of her hair!”
“That's it! You cocky cock! You'll pay for your crimes against humanity.”
“I want to have his adopted babies.”
“Short answer: being Vegan just makes you better than most people.”
“At least it will give us something to complain about later.”

So? What does that matter? I’ve been saying Anchorman quotes for years. I don’t think I’ve ever used one from Happy Gilmore. The only one I somewhat regularly here is the pieces of shite for breakfast. I’d say Tommy Boy has more memorable lines.

Maybe. However, believe it or not, the original discussion wasn’t about what movie you quote the most.

Why? Who cares about the timespan? Maybe when you’re looking at influence, but most quoted, no. I’d be exceptionally shocked if Happy Gilmore even with being older has been more quoted than Anchorman. It just hasn’t. I’d bet it’s closer to 10:1 on how often they’ve been quoted in comparison. People use Anchorman in a more day to day manner than any of the crap from Happy Gilmore.
“I’m in a glass case of emotion.”
“I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”
“It’s so damn hot out here. Milk was a bad choice.”
“60% of the time it works every time.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Don’t act like you’re not impressed.”
“Why don’t you go back to your home on whore island?”
“What you pooped in the refrigerator? And you ate a whole wheel of cheese? In fact I’m not even mad. That’s amazing.”
“Hey, where did you get those clothes? At the toilet store?”
“Go frick yourself, San Diego.”
“I'm gonna put this out there: if you like it, you can take it. If you don't, send it right back … I want to be ON you.”
“I read somewhere their periods attract bears. Bears can smell the menstruation.”
“I don’t know what we’re yelling about!”
“Loud Noises!”
“Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.”

Read the board sometime. I haven’t seen many people quoting Happy Gilmore. It’s rare that I see a week pass where someone doesn’t reference a quote from Anchorman. No one talks about Happy Gilmore in this day and age.

Not even close. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Entire generations have the complete script memorized.
ETA: Okay I just noticed the "last 20 years part"

So by your reasoning the Cable Guy is more quotable than Anchorman as well. It’s older, so obviously people quote it more.

I’m willing to bet that you live within an hour from where you grew up. I’ve lived all over the country and abroad. British people will even quote Anchorman. Everyone quotes that movie from all over. No one save for your friend group talks all that much about Happy Gilmore. There’s only one quote my childhood/college friends and I would say, and I’ve never heard anyone else quoting that or maybe one of Ben Stiller’s quotes. It’s really not all that quotable of a movie and requires very specific context to reference it. “I’m kind of a big deal”, “I’m in a glass case of emotion”, “Milk was a bad choice”, “Don’t act like you’re not impressed”, and “60% of the time it works every time” work in many different contexts. Happy Gilmore does not really have this going for it. Half of your quotes I have no memory of and have seen that movie like 5 times.

No because it’s not as quotable a movie.
quote:

“You suck, ya jackass”, “Youre pretty sick Chubbs”, “Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shite”, “Are you too good for your home?”, “I don’t want a piece of you, I want the whole thing”, “The price is wrong, bitch”
Any many more great ones that don’t require specific context.
