leatherface? was that tx chainsaw massacre?

phantom of the opera?

Nope.

Hint: It's a fairly popular actor's face/mask. They actually made just some minor revisions, widened the eyes, painted it white obviously

What actor's mask did the prop designers use to make the Michael Myers/Halloween mask

Shatner/Kirk? (Did not look it up but seem to recall hearing this years ago)

There was a time when those of us who excelled in useless trivia knowledge received occasional phone calls from friends asking, "who was that guy".

Before IMDB, Wikipedia, e-mail, texting, Nirvana, Pearl Jam...

No, but setting is very similar. More "adventure" than straight up horror...

those campy movies like "THEM" with the giant ants are coming to mind..i know we had corny Jaws 3D in the 70s/80s so maybe the whole 3D thing started with something like that.

hmmm, drawing a blank on 50s adventure style

No but very similar.

"Bwana Devil"...killer lion story starring Robert Stack. Not positive, but I believe the same historical source material as "Ghost and the Darkness" with Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer.
