It's been like that for pretty much every year during this decade.

Whatever. There was no great female performance this year that screamed for the win and Sandra Bullock really has earned people in this town bags and bags of money. The least they can do is give her a statue that she's talented to assuage her ego. I'm not outraged. Who got robbed?

Hurt Locker was good, but the Oscars have become a pile of PC nonsense.

Kathyrn Bigelow just won Best Director. Holy shite. It looks like The Hurt Locker might win Best Picture after all.

She dedicated her SAG speech to him, so she probably didn't feel the need to mention him this time.

Some of Bigelow's career highlights:

Point Break
Strange Days
K-19: The widowmaker
a few episodes of "Homicide"

Wow. Thin resume and she got an Oscar while Scorcese had to wait decades. Still, good win.

How is an award like "Best Director" even given? What's it given for? How is anyone qualified enough to vote? What are its metrics?

I just don't understand what makes this broad a "better" director than anyone else, when so few people even interact with these people in the first place.

I don't know. 10 nominees would seem to favor the big budget movie. Then again, a small movie with a hardcore following might win over people who don't want to vote for the big budget picture.

We're about to find out.
