Sure, because you had no idea it was coming for the past 6 months...
The effect was lessened by the cliffhanger. They still managed to nail the spirit of what Negan's madness means to the group, but it would have been more effective had they killed at least one of the characters at the end of last season. Probably would have been even more effective if they had killed just one of them at the end of last season, and then opened up with another death this season.
Would have been a total shock, as it should have been. The way I see it, they took the shock factor out of it. Negan killing Glenn after Abe was supposed to be shocking, but did that really shock any of you? Sure, it was depressing, but shocking? No.

I was thinking that as well, but I guess the same could be said for a lot of the other characters as well: Michonne, Carol, Daryl, Sasha, Abe etc.- they all lost family. The only difference is we SAW Maggie basically lose everyone.

Agreed. When I was watching the group kneel I thought how awful it was but at the same time I kept thinking they did kill 7 of Negan's people via RPG and deserved to be punished (Negan's thinking). I think a lot of viewers either didn't care or forgot about that storyline.

I think they tried to remind everyone about that when Negan's men started taking Polaroid pictures of the dead bodies in the background. Like, "remember the pictures on the wall when you killed our people?"
The reality is that Rick's group probably wouldn't even have encountered Negan's group if they hadn't gotten involved in the Hilltop's business, but I still think our survivors are the "good guys" here.

This season could do away with a lot of the remaining cast. They have been pretty consistent with 2 or 3 of the main characters killed off each season. We had 2 in the first episode albeit a carry over from last season.

Yeah man. Right after Negan walks off, as the whole group is starting to leave. The camera is focused on someone in our group, but you can see the guy taking pics in the background.

The RPG one was actually justified, even if you look at it from Negan's POV. They basically car jacked them. It wasn't Daryl, Abraham, and (I think) Sasha going out looking for Negan's people. The compound, however, was instigated by Rick's group.
I know, in Negan's view, everyone belongs to him and maybe the RPG deserves retribution. However, if we try to be unbiased, that one is probably more on Negan's people. If that had been all Rick's group did to Negan, there would be no fun argument games to say Negan is in the right.
