I am fairly convinced that Dane Cook made a deal with the devil to be a famous comedian but he forgot to ask to make himself funny. Only explanation I have for his popularity.

Bill Engvall's career just amazes me. He saw Jeff Foxworthy's success and made a lame attempt to match it step for step. The "Here's your sign" thing is an obvious ape of "You might be a redneck."

My wife made me watch him host the CW awards (she wanted to see the B-52's perform) and it was almost painful. I swear, they had a laugh-track playing on an awards show. Even with writers helping him out, it was a train wreck.

Dane Cook is simply not funny. There is no other way to describe his act. Carlos Mencia is another one who defies any reasonable explanation of how he achieved his success.

Don't get me started on Carlos Mencia. He makes Dane Cook look like Richard Pryor.

Never really liked his stand up. More annoying than anything
Never liked his views on religion which played a big part in his standup.

Jack Black. Am I the only person who hates him?
Does he do stand up?

Or is this for standup and actors?

Killin' Them Softy is a great example of how good is stand up is. Watch the Youtube video of his unplanned performance at Kojo comedy club in London to see how well he improvises. If anything, he's an underrated comedian.

Yeah that's a great stand up, but Dave can adjust to any crowd. I can't find the link right now; but there's stand up where he's in Denver, or something like that (nothing but white people), and he plays to the crowd brilliantly. I've never seen a comedian who could engage such a diverse group of people the way he did.

Ditto.

I mean, if it had been him instead of Billy Mays yesterday, I would have stood up and cheered.

come on. I hate Mencia as much as anyone but he steals real comedians' jokes, so no way he is worse than Dane Cook. Nobody is worse than Dane Cook.

I actually laughed at a new comedian for the first time in a long time this weekend when my tv was accidentally on comedy central when i woke up. It was at these jokes:

I think that was HBO's Young Comedians Special from Aspen. It was filmed in the mid-90's and had standup from Chappelle, Dave Attell, Louis CK, Anthony Clark and a few other people. HBO still shows it every couple of years.

My friends and I always quote "Killin Them Softly," probably more so than any movie we've seen.

The show is why I feel he gets so much praise; so, to say it is compiled by numerous writers is even more reason for him to be overrated.

If you judge him by his stand up alone, he is underrated. But the problem is he gets so much love for the TV show. I'm willing to bet there is a large majority out there who also haven't seen the unplanned Kojo performance (thanks for pointing me to this).

TV / movie Chappelle = overrated
Stand up Dave = underrated

The thread topic is "Overrated Rated Comedians" and the OP says it is inspired by the overrated actor thread. So, I would think movie or stand up would be appropriate.

So on that note, I have a strong dislike for Jack Black's work as well. I just don't find him funny, especially not his wild and crazy lyrical work he constantly does.

Or both. Did you see the 2 hour Obama Campaign commercial Chris Rock did during the election year? They called it a stand-up concert, but there was nothing funny. . .and Rock is generally worth a laugh or two.

David Alan Grier. TBS or Comedy Central give DAG a special every year. I think it's b/c they need to fill a racial quota. They do the same with Tyler Perry's horrible shows.

Ray Romano. I don't like his stand up or his show.
Larry the cableguy. Bad, just bad.
Chris Rock.
Bill Maher.
Martin Lawrence.
Adam Sandler.
Colin Quinn.
Richard Jeni.
DL Hughley.
Dana Carvey.
Woody Allen.
Louie Anderson.

He made the funniest two years of television history. You can't overrate that type of greatness.
