I went to the midnight showing and did not enjoy the movie at all. I should have seen "The Surrogates". It had some funny parts but most were unrealistic(human reactions) and had been done before.

Ok so you saw Paranormal Activity and did not like it, right?

Because this does not compute?

LOVED IT! I don't scare easily and I'm still a bit freaked out.

Movies and books never get to me, but I slept with all the lights on and got about 2 hours of sleep

nice, now I will refrain from seeing any more info about this flick, as over hype can kill a movie.

The movie center's around a couple. The boy friend does have one or two funny lines. I felt they plucked parts out of other horror movies both main stream and blockbuster exclusives. I was expecting something more, way more.
Also their are plenty of movies out there that suck as a whole but have one or two good scenes, mostly used on the trailer.

I got to see it at an advance screening. It creeped me out as well. Supposedly, there are 3 different endings. I wonder which one is showing in BR.

How did the showing you saw end? This is how the BR showing ended when I saw it Friday....
Chick gets up stands on the boyfriends side of the bed for about two hours then walks out of the room. She screams the boyfriend runs to go to her then you see him getting thrown at the camera and she's standing in the doorway covered in blood. She walks up to the camera does something to the boyfriends body then looks at the camera and the movie ends by saying that his body was discovered by San Diego police and no knows where she is at.
Also after she was drug out of bed and down the hall they were going to leave and go to a hotel. You see her laying in bed saying she wanted to stay and she thought they would be ok. She gets this creepy smile on her face that really made me uneasy. Its been awhile since I was freaked out by a movie but watching this one really freaked me out.

This is not the same ending that we saw. She still gets up in the middle of the night, stares at him for a long time and then walks out of the room. This is where things differ.....
SPOILER BELOW
She screams, he gets up and runs out of the room. You hear yelling and what sounds like a fight, all off camera, then there is silence. After a long pause, you hear somebody coming up the stairs. I thought it sounded like somebody dragging something, you couldn't really tell. The girl then appears in the doorway covered in blood and holding a large kitchen knife. She says nothing but slowly walks right up to the camera. Some people said she was crying, but I couldn't tell because it was dark. She then suddenly slits her throat with the knife and falls down. The camera keeps running for a few minutes and then shuts off. End of movie.

That's a much different ending because the one I saw made it seem like she was still out there somewhere. Did the ending you saw say anything at the end to make it seem like it was a true story?

No, but there was something at the beginning of the film about it. At the end, the camera shuts off and that's it....no music, no credits, just a blank screen. People in the audience didn't know what to do because the theater lights didn't come on right away. It was creepy.

Just got back from the movie with my wife. Whether a person likes the movie or not, judging from the crowd tonight (movie played on 2 screens), then the movie is most likely going to be a financial success and, like Blair Witch, probably will have a cult following.
Now, about the movie:
Where the Blair Witch succeeded in building tension in a long arc, this movie is able to accomplish the same thing, just in a more "building block" fashion. The tense parts of the movie are punctuated with light comic relief and, more importantly, a feeling of normalcy.
If you hear people describe "jump scares" in this movie and are turned off by that, trust me: these DO happen, but are not only necessary for the plotline, but also quite effective. They don't exist on their own...they are woven into the story in order to heighten the viewer's sense of dread. After all, as most of you know already, the antagonist is never seen. Thus, the director had to rely on other senses of perception to for a "bad guy". Here, like Blair Witch, that will begin to develop in your mind. Mine was not a pretty picture at all.
Save for only a couple of moments, this film isn't littered with "Why the hell are they doing that?" moments. The building of tension and the actors' reactions all seem well within the realm of what you, or I, might do. Sure, it's easy to second-guess (in virtually every movie) the actions of the protagonists here, but at least in Paranormal Activity nothing seems implausible.
The camera work was more than acceptable; the "shakey-cam" phenomenon is rarely used and isn't even all that terrible when it is. The actors themselves did a fine job; the lead actor, at times, came across slightly naive and too willing to frame things with his silliness, but he did well and the lead actress was spot-on in her performance. The only other actor of note, the "psychic", did well to convey the situation and sounded pretty knowledgeable and no-nonsense enough that his spiels were definitely believable.
The last 10 minutes or so of the film did seem slightly rushed, but not so much that I felt it really did anything to effect my enjoyment of the film. In hindsight, it's much easier to swallow the pacing by accepting, according to the film, that this took place over the course of three weeks. Perhaps there were other events that weren't filmed; perhaps every single night was filmed with many being uneventful. Whatever the case, I was satisfied with the whole movie. Whatever qualms I have are small and inconsequential.
I can't say much more without giving away substantial plot detail; I will agree with other people's reviews I've read who say that this movie will probably tend to effect viewers more at home than in the theater. It's the whole "why am I still thinking about it?" kind of thing going on. What's worse, for me, is that my house is very similar to the one in the film. If you were to stand in the doorway of my bedroom looking out, it's a near-mimic of the film set.
