Which brings up an interesting question. The Rocky movies were some of the most popular of the 1980's. You would think the sport of boxing would have benefited greatly from the exposure it received as a result. Instead, boxing spent the next ten years plummeting down the "most popular sports" ranks, going from national obsession to national afterthought in blinding speed. Could the Rocky movies have had something to do with that? Did they raise a generation of potential fans to expect every boxing match to be a monumental brawl rather than an often slow-paced contest of endurance and technique? I could see that playing a part, even if only a small one, in boxing's precipitous decline.

Yea, boxing was still big throughout the 90s thanks to Tyson, Holyfield, ODLH, and Roy Jones Jr. But I agree, after Tyson-Holyfield II, it started on a downward trajectory that quickly picked up speed into the 2000s.
