I enjoyed the hell out of his role playing a hitman against the plastic army men in the updated version of "battleground". An episode from the show Night Gallery, redone for a collection of shorts for TNT's Nightmares and Dreamscapes...

A Hitman kills a toymaker, then receives a collection of army men as a gift....

battleground - Full episode. Youtube

John Hurt
10 years older, and died in 2017. Probably not as well-known as William Hurt in the US, but he did have a distinguished career.

IMDb

The oldest thing I know him for is a Judas type role in A Man for All Seasons (1966). It's a small, but very important character.

He did some relevant voice acting in animated films Watership Down (1978) and was Aragon in Lord of the Rings (1978). Was Kane in Alien (1979). The title role of The Elephant Man (1980). Was one of two "nice" wealthy guys, along with Kris Kristofferson, in Heaven's Gate (1980). Jesus in History of the World: Part I (1981). In 1983 he was in a Sam Peckinpah directed adaptation of The Osterman Weekend with Rutger Hauer, Dennis Hopper & Craig T. Nelson. The lead role of Winston Smith in 1984 (1984). Spaceballs (1987). Plays Britain's Minister of War in Scandal (1988). One of the Royals in King Ralph (1991). Rob Roy (1995). Dead Man (1995). Also a ton of other roles in movies I've never seen. He must have enjoyed acting, because some look like stinkers.

My favorite movie with him is Wild Bill (1995). He plays the role of Charley Prince, a friend of Hickock. He also narrates the film. It's a star studded affair with Jeff Bridges, Ellen Barkin, Diane Lane, Christina Applegate, Keith Carradine, David Arquette, Bruce Dern, and the guy with an unforgettable voice, James Gammon. John Hurt's greatest role was reprising his role from Alien.....in Spaceballs.

"Oh no...Not again...."
