I rewatched this movie with my wife and it was much worse the second time around. I think on the first watch I was enamored by the cinematography which is great but the actual plot and execution sucks.

Most characters are severly over acted, the film tries to sniff its own farts by being ridiculously artsy multiple times, the vampires are basically retarded and could have killed everyone multiple times, and they never really flesh out how the music and vampires are actually connected. Plus the first half of the movie is very slow and more about the background of the twins than anything but none of that background info really means much in the end. All these people around them could be starngers to them and the end plot is essentially the same.

All in all, I don't think it was a very good movie.

I'm so white, I enjoyed the vampire folk music.

I liked the movie overall but had a few gripes/questions

The Indians that were chasing the vampire clearly had knowledge of hunting them and I thought we would get more of them later to introduce and explain lore to our main characters, disappointed they never came back.

It was unclear if the Klan and the vampires were working together or not. The final scene seemed weird, and I’d almost rather have them come and have the Klan, vampires and others all on screen.

Liked the clear Robert Johnson myth tie in.

My thought was that the vampire saw the subjugated minorities as easy pickings. The Indians saw through his “vampire equality” bullshite just as the African Americans did. My take on why the Indians were introduced.

What a boring movie. Doesn’t even pick up until 30 minutes out.

And the mix of music montage was dorkish

Downvoters welcome to share counterpoints, otherwise I’m sorry, it’s truth.

It’s a beautifully made, well acted, B horror movie.

Nailed it.

Thought it was great. I went in fully expecting not to like it based on a lot of what’s been posted here, but I found it refreshing and genuinely well-made.

For me, it checks the boxes of solid storytelling: a clear three-act structure, strong plot progression, a meaningful reversal, and really strong performances. The directing and cinematography elevate it, and the music is the icing on the cake.

I also appreciated that it does some things differently from the typical Hollywood horror formula. We spend a lot of time complaining that nothing new comes out of Hollywood, and here’s a movie that actually takes some risks while still being structurally sound. It won’t be for everyone, but I thought it was a smart, well-executed film.
