Finish the thought: you like movies that push the limits of decency
And there's something wrong with that?

Which means you like indecency
That's not the same thing. You're speculating and jumping to conclusions about someone you know nothing about.

I almost can't wait to hear what's next in the "progression".
Would you mind explaining that a little more?
Are you implying that I'm an indecent person, or immoral, or that I'm on a path to becoming a serial killer?
Movies are just that; movies. I can watch a movie about people being tortured, and go home and be a daddy and husband with it having no ill effects on me.

Don't know about you guys, but I am a cereal killer.

Exactly.
I'm the same way.

I've never like torture movies. I think Hostel is depraved and gives me the creeps, much less movies like Centipede and Salo, etc.
About as much torture I can stand in a movie was the end of Braveheart. I did like the first few Saws, but once it got more and more gory, I tuned out.

The first Saws had a story involving torture. After that, it became torture and gore for the sake of torture and gore. That does nothing for me.

Yeah. Every extra viewer for stuff like this increases the probability that more will be made, which increases the probability that impressionable kids will stumble onto it one day.
Really it's about picking a side. Yeah I know "It's just a movie", but culture is significant. If our culture is ok with movies about shackling people arse to mouth, what won't we be ok with?

That's arguable, but I concede the point as far as it goes.

All I know about you is what I've seen you post today.
I'm implying that the progression indicated that next would be something even worse than torture movies. Maybe snuff?

That's good, but how do you know it doesn't have ill effects on you?
I've seen a lot of on-screen murders and have never felt the urge to murder anyone b/c of it, but I don't think I'd be completely unaffected by rushing out to watch every sick movie that gets produced. GIGO, right?

it's not wrong, per se
but there are likely fascinating psychological issues within your wittle head

Sounds like something I could bring my kids to. They LOVE centipedes.

Salo was made in 1975. Cannibal Holocaust in 1980. I can go back and post earlier dates of movies that pushed the level of decency, but I don't need more than two examples to prove my point. These movies have been around for a long time, and will continue to be made.

movies.
This point proves nothing about the type of person I am. I also like to watch Sponge Bob with my kids, and comedies, and thrillers. Not a single movie that I watch indicates anything about me personally.

First let me show you a definition of snuff:
A snuff film or snuff movie is a motion picture genre that depicts the actual death or murder of a person or people, without the aid of special effects, for the express purpose of distribution and entertainment or financial exploitation.
That came from the wikipedia page on snuff films.
Now back to your comment. You're assuming there's a next step. I've watched snuff before, and it's not my thing. Mostly because snuff is real, and a movie is fake. Watching someone get fake tortured is completely different than watching someone really get killed for entertainment.
quote:

I don't rush out to see every sick movie that's made. I saw Cannibal Holocaust this year for the first time, and that movie has been out for about 30 years.
I know it doesn't have an ill effect on me because I'm a law abiding citizen. I don't harbor thoughts of death or torture towards any person. I'm a productive member of society with a family.
I just like fricked up movies.
Does not make me a fricked up person.

The same could be said for someone that averages around 80 posts per day on a message board.

no that's simple
i require constant stimuli b/c my brain works too fast

Both in Italy, right?
Either way, I know that sick people will make sick movies, but they are less likely to find the funding to make them worth a shite production-wise if fewer people watch them.

It can say SOMETHING about you personally without saying that you are a sick twisted individual. I think it says something, but I didn't say it was like a condemnation of you as a person.

Again, it's different, but I bet that MOST people who really enjoy something like Hostel will seek out snuff films eventually.
Anyway, I'm glad you're not an f'd up person, b/c we don't need any more of those.

I'm just messing with ya SFP. I hear you're good people.
Different people require different types of stimuli. Not saying that one of those things are sick twisted movies for me. My DVD collection at home has absolutely no movies of this type. My home computer has no movies of this type. I don't have a shrine to the Son of Sam or Norman Bates in my home.
I just like a wide variety of movies, this genre being one of them.

I love zombie movies. The reason I love them is because of the breakdown of society that occurs during them. I do not want zombies to start munching on people. However, there is a part of me that thinks I would enjoy a world where you have to fight for your survival.
No work. Just enduring.
Of course, if something like that were to happen, I'm sure I'd be cursing myself for ever wishing for it to be so.
It would suck to live in a world without Tigerdroppings.

yeah in that 70s/80s era, italy was the gore king b/c they were trying to find a way to be experimental and artsy with a new medium. once they got the ball rolling, it became a pop outlet for shitty gore fests
japan is now the gore king. what was once a true reflection on the repressed japanese person has turned into the same pop outlet for shitty gore fests. it's been a long time since tetsuo

I get that, and it makes sense. It just boils down to different strokes for different folks. I started a "fricked up movies" thread a year or more ago, and it led to me seeing things like Men Behind the Sun, Jacob's Ladder, and Cannibal Holocaust. I just get in moods sometimes to see fricked up movies.
