I doubt they were going for show stopping laughs.
It was pretty cool and I enjoyed watching it, but I didn't laugh much (sans Dwight and the knife).

I am still an Office fan and not a chic Office hater, but other than Pam's tits that was the worst opening they've ever done. I didn't even find Dwight and his survivor knife funny.

I think it was supposed to be more of a welcome back thing and with it being Carrels final season I am sure they wanted the cold opening to the season to be somewhat of a celebration. Thats what I got out of it.

I thought the opening scene was pretty bad and hopefully not the direction that the show seems to be inevitably moving to.

I'm not an Office hater either. I still watch all of them, I just think there's been a noticeable decrease in quality and these are perfect examples.
my buddy put it pretty well today that it's tough to come up with 100 show ideas for a 'reality' comedy so I can understand to a point. Still doesn't mean it bugs me any less though.
