Oh yeah. If i remember correctly, the series started over about 2 episodes later. 
I've seen every episode of DBZ and last year I watched Dragonball for the very first time. I was really surprised at how good it was. Still haven't watched but like 3 episodes of GT.

Ah man don't waste your time watching GT. Very good thing you went back to watch Dragon Ball. Those 5 seasons are awesome.

If you get the urge to want to watch GT, I suggest starting at the episodes where Baby first arrives. It is barely watchable, but at least I could still watch some of it. Other than that, the show is awful.
And Dragon Ball is great, obviously not the extreme power levels and seriousness that is DBZ, but it is way more hilarious which fit it perfectly.

That's Goku, but Broly never showed in the TV seasons. I think that is just a fans art. Broly does go to SSJ3 in Raging Blast 2, a video game.
Technically, Broly only has 2 transformations, SSJ1 and Legendary Super Saiyan, which is basically the Ultra-Super Saiyan form. The SSJ2 form is almost as powerful as Broly. SSJ3 is definitely more powerful than Broly's LSSJ form.
