are these available as one volume? I liked reading the special edition of Watchmen because it was conveniently in one packaging rather than the 8 or 9 or so that comprise the series.

Bumping it with a post like this doesn't really help...

However, it has been my favorite thread on the M&TV board the last few days.

It was already at the top, and I think the topic has been talked to death.

The thing about Watchmen is that no one has an arguement that the book isn't good. You can say you didn't enjoy it, and that's your preference, but it is an amazing piece of literature, whether anyone likes it or not. Someone needs to defend why it isn't good, SFP's arguement, like most of his arguements, was super weak.

Its ambitions are good, but it falls short. The characters are two-dimensional and barely fleshed out. There is not one character in the graphic novel worth caring about. And given the ambitions and direction of the story, that is a bad offense on the part of Moore.

You're kidding right?

Well, that's like, your opinion man.

Whether YOU cared about them or not is up to you obviously, but to say they are two-dimensional is not true.

it is widely regarded as the best by many people, most experts in the field of literature.

i thought it would have made a great novel, but the visuals of the graphic novel turned me off. i wasn't a fan of the corny, 80's-comic look and feel. also there is just so much backstory that at times it can get confusing for the reader.

i actually want to read it again after seeing the movie. i think i'll enjoy it more the next go-round

I am talking about comparatively too. Would you really argue that his characterizations in Watchmen were as deep as V and From Hell?

And they needed to be that deep if Watchmen ever could have carried it's message as well as it possibly could have.

I've only seen the movie versions of both of those, so I can't compare. However, I thought the "end of chapter" (for lack of a better term) material in Watchmen...the interviews, the research papers, and all of the Under the Hood stuff definitely gave you a window into knowing the characters, in addition to just the story itself. Like I said though, I never read V or From Hell, so I don't know if those books had the same type of material.

SPOILERS SPOILERS.

I just don't see how a frame up of Doc M would cause peace and happiness.

He has god powers and there appears to be no way to kill him.

Since he just wiped out 15 million people, I would think mass hysteria would ensue.

A ton a new doomsday suicide cults would sprout up the next day.

At bare minimum, Ozzy should have at least broadcast a fake tape with Doc M stating that he gave the world a taste of destruction to show them the folly. If the continued on the same path he would wipe out the rest of the planet if they did not start disarmament.

I was worried about the change in the end and I am still not sure it works.

If god started raining fire on us, would we be peaceful and joyous or hysterical and crazed?

I bet this weekend will see a massive drop off in box office.

Hey, frick you Zombie. Really cool name or not, you should listen to what I say. Plus, I only suggested it should die, I didn't demand it. BTW, I like your avatar picture. My first one was of a zombie.

I agree with all of this. And I agree with the person who said that there wasn't a character to care about. If you can't invest in at least one character, how can you care about the story?

I haven't read all of this thread so forgive me. I don't know anything about this movie so I was told I whould hate it. I don't read comics or particularly like superhero movies but I love this director. Would I like it?
