You see, man... This is what set me back with the gun fight, it was like they said,"okay, we're gonna try to do a gun fight scene last year.. when they we're in Houston, instead.. This time we are gonna do it with crazy Mexicans and we're gonna blow it way out of proportion to make people think,'wtf is going on, man?', this will work..."
This is what ran through my mind right after I said,"wow, this is awesome! ", and realized things are going to shite quick...

No obviously.
But it just seems like he sits down with someone and intimidates them over and over.

Yeah there were like 3 VV shakedowns in this episode.

Right. Shakedowns. That's the word I used.
So boring.

I actually enjoyed the first 3 episodes. But this one was definitely sub par.
Ah well, can't win them all.
Question is - With this series kind of faltering and GoT loosing a bit of quality this past season and things like Breaking Bad and Mad Men now in the rear view mirror, is the golden age showing signs of abating?

Somebody wrote an article about this, and people flipped shite. But it kind of looks that way. But I think the demand for great television is too high. More stuff will come.

Good not great episode
Yeah there are too many networks and shows now that are getting quality shows
Its watering down the shows a bit. Instead of having a few A shows you have a ton of B shows.
And I still think GoT is an A show

Game or thrones is till good and this season was just as good as the others
The more popular something becomes the more popular it is to hate it.

I think I may have hijacked this thread so I'll start a stand alone thread on the "end of the golden age" question.

She pulled the knife out....then a ripoff tarantino.ending happened....with her putting the knife back in....we all know she will use the knife at some point...but my hope is that she uses it on Pizzalato.

I was hoping she would die in that scene
She's so bad. Good god the writing this season is god awful

Last seasons gun fight was for a purpose. To going into hell and kidnap a badass biker in order to help solve the case
S1 E4 was one of my all time favorite episodes

You're probably actually watching it and not looking for reasons why this isn't Season 1.
i didn't forget which season this is
this season is a jumbled mess with really terrible writing and over-done acting. it has good cinematography and underneath the shite show that is the surface, you could probably mold an interesting story. the biggest issue is trying to have a story and 4 character stories while trying to have the characters interact, adapt to the story, and develop.
the story is severely neglected because of the issues with the characters

Episodes 4 and 5 of season 1 are masterpieces

exactly what i was thinking in real time
this was the "omg BOOM what did i see?!!??!" moment like the beaumont scene last year

It's a disgrace to even have the name true detective on this season
Season 1 deserves to stand alone as the masterpiece it is
If this season 2 were called anything else it would be on at 9pm on Friday night cbs and still would suck

You know whats funny to me?
Last season at this point we were having 40 page threads over analyzing every still from every prior episode, drawing conclusions from whether a characters shirt was dirty or from an out of focus picture on the wall behind a character in a scene.
My how times change.

like i said there could be a good story but the first thing that has been pushed aside this year is truly developing the story
season 1 had an addicting story (that admittedly fell off a fricking cliff)
funny enough i think this season ends opposite last year and there is a big conspiracy that unveils and people are going to be like

Yep. Seemed like they know the show sucks so we'll just have a 10 minute shootout to try and get some attention.
